Darwin first week
Man made swimming pool with a beach Arrived in Darwin or at least a suburb of Darwin Howard Springs about 30 ks from Darwin, settle in on a big4 caravan park, found some friends we had met earlier at our previous camp intend to stay here for at least 2 weeks before heading into the national parks .Will use this place as a base to tour around.
Darwin has seen many changes since we were here about 8 years ago with friends, down at the waterfront precinct has been added a man made swimming enclosure with beach and also a wave pool all very well done and in good taste, these are surrounded by cafe's and restaurants with the occasional bar with ample space for picnic's and bbq's.
Some of the local swimming holes remain closed this early in the season while rangers determine if any crocs have made their way into them if so they will be caught and transferred away,it's a pity because some of these holes look really inviting.Never mind they will be here for the next time.
Darwin is famous for it's markets and one of these is Mindal market held every Sunday and Thursday in the dry season from about 4-30 til
Darwin
Wave pool late. This market is set next to a beach to which market attenders flock to at sunset. The market itself is full of the usual stalls but also has many food stalls with cuisine from all over the world available but being so close to Asia there is an abundance of Asian food to be had. With traditional didgeridoo music and other acts playing this makes for a vibrant market,we spent about 2hrs there yesterday evening and watched a beautiful sunset after feasting on curry and Mongolian lamb
More to come
