We got to ring in the new year 16 hours earlier this year. Apparently Sydney prides itself on being one of the first major cities to let the ball drop, and they put on one hell of a show. Everyone warned us how crowded it gets, so we packed a picnic and made a day of it. We set up camp on the beach off Bradly Head, which looked straight out to the harbor bridge. The only thing that between us and the bridge were the boats in the water (luckily no big yachts!). We had the most amazing weather and chilled on the beach with a couple coronas, good tunes on the ipod, and a fierce game of monopoly. I even had time for a little nap before the fireworks started. For the most part everyone around us was really cool - some a bit more territorial than others, but we decided he was just miserable with his existence, so we let him be fat and take up more room.
The fireworks were lit off 4 barges spread along the harbor, off the bridge itself, and also off 5 or 6 buildings of the city's skyline. At one point, it
was hard to know where to look because the entire sky was lit up! I have to say that it will take a lot to top a night like this.
We joined the mass exodus out of the park and made it home well before the sun came up without any troubles. Now it's time to commit to those new year's resolutions. We closed out the year on a very happy note, and looking forward to all that's to come in the upcoming year!
Sydney SkylineThe show reached new heights when fireworks were lit from the top of the skyscrapers
space for 1We staked out extra space for co-workers to join us, but ended up giving it away to some very grateful late-comers
VIP ParkingThe boats moved in throughout the day and added to ambiance of our surroundings
