Northern New Zealand trip
Jacob Harris yeah, the photos are all mixed up.. and there is a lot to say.. maybe i should have done installments..or maybe you can read a little at a time and not get bored
so..we took off to the norht..and this is where we woke up...
somewhere a few hours North of Auckalnd
The Bay of Islands
Cape Brett Night
Cape Brett Morning
my pet kiwi
definatly not supposed to touch stuffed kiwis.. buit i couldnt resist Deep Water Cove.. and the Orca...the yacht we eventually woke up on....
Cape Brett from afar..we started off the picture to the right a ways.. and hiked all that
Oh yes.. Stephen Kings House..no not the author.. the barefooted lng haired Kiwi that dries out tea tree's for seeds and replants the forest... and also Paul, our Austrian hitchhiker we picked up and led us here
Cara and Bird
trying to poke unsuspecting doves somewhere headed back home
we took off kind of late and drove till it got kinda dark, then found a campsite
Then we headed up to Whengarea and stopped off at the Bird Recovery Center and saw a talking Tui,, a bird that talked like an old man.. pretty impressive.
and we saw Kiwis!! kind of..
umm..a lot has happened and there are a lot of pictures,...the most interestiung things.. kiwis
a quite extreme 8 hour trek to cape brett with nothing but going downhill ,and even more uphill..we barely made it
so we decided to split up the hike back into two days and stay at deep water cove..where people who are smarter than us get dropped of by boat..and hike two hours to cape brett..
i secretly hoped we would come across a water taxi and not have to do the 5
view
one of the infinate or 6 hour hike the next day..
sure enough, a yacht rolls in.. and we end up yellling back and forth at eachother..then when the tide came in, he maneuvered over and we jumped off a big rock onto the bow of his boat///??? strnage. so he offers us tea and we gladly accept..and then he cooks us eggs and toast...which we ate...thennnn.. he offers us some wine..which we drank...what hospitality!!! His name was Neil.. he sold his house and got a yacht and lives on it.. sailing around.. so it was late..and we slept on the yacht..
the next morning...coffee and toast and jam and honey... then we just sail around the Bay Of Islands all day..on a 33 foot yacht.. beats the hell out of hiking with sore legs 5 hours
up and down mountains.
so, neil has no dingy and cant really get us off his boat..so we go to his boey in a small bay and sure enough..the people he sold his house to, Julie and Kim, are just coming in on their boat.. so we hop off and they offer to give us a ride to our car.. but not before offering us
vroowmmm
our sweet car..very comfy and fun to drive on dirt roads..and spinning out in..i forgot to mention, local Kiwi's are crazy drivers snacks... and beer and Dinner.. and a place to crash...so nice.
so we got out car and went back to there house, or batch...it was just ther vacation/weekend house and had a massive feast with a couple of there friends and families.. with crayfish and mussles, which they had just got from diving that day...and a lot of other meat and salads and such...then we hung out and laughed a lot.. the slept on some spare beds they had in there garage..
the next day we head up and stay at some hostile type place..then we head to cape reinga..then down to the whaipu forest..were we picked up Paul..hitchhiking around NZ from Austria.. we were going to stay at the waipu forest campground..but it was closed..and Paul just happened to have directions to someones house he hear he could crash at..
so we find the house and no ones there..so we set up tents around the back.
a little later a guy comes home, Stephen King..the barefoot long haird kiwi who replants the forests....and sees some peoples camped at his house, so we go up to him.. and explain the situation..."sure" he says " there'sa kitchen right
Heading out
getting ready for out hike.. up there" pointing up some stairs "and a bathroom there, and beds over there"...
cara had mentioned several times about the incredible hospitality of everyone she has come across..and is is truely amazing how kind everyone has been.
we have laughs with paul..he plays some tunes on my guitar...
oh yes..i got a mini guitar jus before we left because i knew i couldn't go to long with out it.. and what a perfect purchase..only $50nz,,, about 40 us ..has come in handy many a times...
the next day we go to the waipu forest and walk around a bit, then headed back to auckland..
we leave again mayube tomorrrow and head to the mid east coast and to Gisborne
until then
sorry for any confusion..theres too much to write about and too many pictures

Sweet pictures
Hey brothah, looks like a stellar adventure. Thanks for giving me something fun to do at work today (reading your blog). Tell Cara we say hello and keep snapping those pictures!
