Choice Day ey!!!!!! Franz Josef

Hi everyone!

So we headed off early from Fox township to Franz Josef. We checked in for our Ice Explorer trip and met our group. Our guide was from Tazmania and quickly informed us it was a "choice day" to be on the glacier, he was great fun and very informative. We all got given coats, gloves, socks, boots, crampons and a bag to to carry food and drinks in. We got briefed and then we scrambled into the Helicopter and we flew up and landed right on the glacier!! It was unbelievable! The sun was shining and due to the weather being so bad in recent days they had got a fresh metre of snow so the colours on the glacier were just spectacular! The pictures say it all 😊 We spent 3 hours trekking on the glacier, climbing up steps carved into the ice by our guide, squeezing through tiny crevasses in the ice, it was so much fun and the scenery was breathtaking!! We loved every minute of it. When we finished we climbed back into the helicopter and flew back to the car park. The trip was worth every penny. What an experience to actually be on a glacier it something I have wanted to do since learning about them in n geography class Mr Geoghan would be proud haha!

As part of our trip we got free entry into yet more hot pools which was so relaxing after a day trekking on the glacier 😊 That evening we stayed in the Rainforest Retreat holiday park and Chef Byrne cooked up a storm as usual, we enjoyed steak and chips and then headed into town and found a lovely bar for beers and hot chocolate which topped of a great day 😊

Tomorrow we start the LONG journey all the way back to where we started because the bridge has still not been repaired 😞
