11th Feb. Humner Springs to Westport.

With the intention of getting an early start after a real bad night (bloody Japanese ) left
at 9-00am only to find some 20mins down the road I had left my diary behind !!BUGGER,BUGGER!!! So by the time I finally got going it was 9-45am never mind but galling, was suggested I stop at Reefton a pretty village so that was my first stop ,you never know what will turn up. I was there about 5mins getting fuel when these “Tricycles turned up .Amazing Machines all hand built wonderful creations, really superb engineering.(there had been a rally on Saturday just up the road and they were heading home ..after admiring them I pushed on to Westport arrived about 13-30 ,a completely deserted one street town nothing whatsoever of interest so decided after consulting Lonely Planet the best option was Nelson a long haul and had to backtrack 50klms
This part of the South Island has majestic rolling mountains covered with pine forests with some very deep gorges the road following the Buller river for 150klms.Approached Nelson about 16-30 having had to stop for 1/2hour as I was tending to fall asleep. yet again finding accom proving to be difficult at a budget price. The price you pay for traveling high season. Loads of Germans now. Feeling very weary decided to stay for a couple of days and will explore Nelson tomorrow.
