well, it was another marathon driving day. after 5+ hours yesterday, we did another 6 today. bleah...

we pulled in to a little town called akaroa, just south of christchurch. it's a completely different feeling place, since it was established by french colonists in the mid 1800's. even the street names are in french here. the harbour here is set in the cauldera of an extinct volcano.. at least that's what kevin tells me...

it's a balmy 25C. great shorts weather -- but terrible spring weather for me. it meant flowers are in full bloom and my allergies are raging! i've been feeling pretty miserable all day, and used a huge wad of kleenex.

oh well. it gives me an excuse to have ice cream. or ice creams, as they say here. my favourite has been the magnum toffee almond crunch bars. for those of you in the know, magnums are the best ice cream bars out there -- even better than hagen daz, if you ask me. i haven't had one in about 4 years, but i've purchased one every other day now. oh, my poor pot belly...

i head off to swim with the dolphins tomorrow. i'm hoping the weather stays warm for it. apparently they're the rarest dolphins in the world. i think they're called hector dolphins, and they look a little like tiny killer whales.
