Last night we decided to eat out, so we browsed through the brochures provided to see what we could find. There was a piazza place, but that was shut on Mondays. We picked on a take away for fish and chips, and walked down the street to pick it up. We found it shut as apparently they were away all July!
So we moved on to another place, which it turned out was also shut on Monday. The night was quite cold, and we thought we might walk back to another place, but on the way we found the pizza place (shut mondays) was open, so hurriedly went in out of the cold - that had some tables outside with candles lit, but we couldn't believe anyone would pick those!
Anyway, we sat down and picked up a menu, and made our choices. The waitress was busy on the phone to a friend apparently, so we waited while she chatted on. Eventually she hung up and came over and took our orders. We were joined by a couple of other customers who had come in out of the cold.
From our seats we could see into the kitchen and see
our meal being cooked, but by this time the waitresses boyfriend had apparently turned up, and she was busy smooching with him by the bar. So the cook eventually brought us our order, which was very nice, but we were just bemused by the whole thing.
We briefly discussed the idea of desserts but just couldn't imagine what might happen next in our waitresses life, so thought we better go back to the motel and eat an iced bun instead.
When today dawned it was overcast, and a little wet. We decided to head for the very most northerly point of the south island,
Farewell Spit. We wanted to take one of the tours along it, but the tides were wrong for the trip. The clouds were low on the mountain as we drove north. The scenery with the sheep looked a lot like Wales except it wasn't raining - and then it did start to rain and it was very cold and wet. The beach had some interesting geology and very gray sands.
Then we went to wharariki beach the place we had the whole beach to our selves and Simon was nearly trapped, we had to make a heroic dash to the car before the tide came in. There was quite a lot of sheep poo on the way and the way back to the car there was quite a lot of mountains. The rain was quite wild and we got soaked, it was a good job we took our coats and the toilets weren't very good they werent as they normaly and you didnt have to flush it it was just a hole down.it was a twenty minute walk to the beach and back on the way back I was exhausted.
