Travel Period: 11 Nov 2008 to 24 Nov 2008 We all left Queenstown with a heavy heart as we had so much of adventure over here. But our journey still continues with much more fun.
The journey to Lake Tekapo was a long but scenic route. We stopped at many intervals. One of our stop was at lake Pukaki. It was breath- taking with turquoise coloured water. We reached at lake Tekapo which is a small town. We checed-in at Scenic Resort and had a balcony facing the lake. We had lunch at the near by cafe which by the way was not that great. I guess it was because the food got so cold fast as we were eating outside. Next on our agenda was Horse Riding. There was a free pick up provided to the horse stable.
Horse Riding portrayed in the movies seemed so glamourous with the wind blowing as you manuovre your horse but trust me, in reality, it was the quite the opposite. Firstly, getting up the horse seemed like a big task. We were taught by the instructor how to move front or to your sides. She was a young blonde who
was very friendly. During our ride, one of the horses, was in a bad mood and refused to move and nearly ran away. some of the others shitted, pissed and farted along the way which made us laugh so much. The ride lasted around 45 mins.
We were brought back and we decided to explore the Chrurch of the good Shephard. It was a tiny church just in front of the lake and it was so windy. It was good place for a nice photography. We had dinner at PePe's Pizza and Pasta.
Salmon Past didnt taste this good. Apparantly, salmon was caught fresh off the water. Pizza was also very delicious.
We then went to a small grocery store to get titbits and headed back to our room which we spent staring at the sky. Lake Tekapo is famous for star gazing. it was quite unbearable to stand outside the balcony as it was super cold.
The next day started off with a bus ride to mount cook base, which we visited Tasman Glacier. It was a 10 to 15 mins walk on rocky path and you could see the glaciers floating. We saw tiny
ones to huge ones. We were taken on a boat ride in which the tour guide explained to us and i even tasted one!!!
We had lunch at the restaurant which i remembered was very expensive but well we got to eat. After lunch, we waited for our pick up which drove us further up so a helicopter. This helicopter will bring us to the mountain, land for about 10 mins and bring us back. This was my first time on a helicopter so i was seated just beside the door so that i could video tape my entire flight.
We landed on the mountain with tons of snow. The moment we got off the helicopter, we took snow in our hands and started throwing at each other!! so fun!! That lasted about 15 mins.
That pretty much sums up my stay in Lake Tekapo. Next stop is to Christchurch which will be our last leg in our NZ trip and then its back home. Although it has been about 2 weeks away from home, i still do miss home but also missing NZ although i have not left the place.
