So Milford Sound. Wow what a place. And what a drive there too. The bus took us down some lovely windey mountainous roads, through a tunnel burrowed through the mountain and out into the entrance of the fjord. Milford Fjord, incorrectly labeled Milford Sound many years ago. When we got there we got almost the picture perfect view of the fjord as you see on postcards only there was a lot of fencing and ferrys in the way. The tickets we had entitled us to a free buffet style meal on the ferry so we all stuffed as much as possible to make up for the fact that we're budget travelers and rarely eat decent size meals with a good selection of edibilities. So this was a treat. We sailed from the start right out to the end and into the sea observing little waterfalls falling down the huge steep cliffs either side if us along the way. Then we headed back towards the start and stopped off at a little underwater observatory to see the underwater wildlife in the fjord before finishing the boat trip. The problem with these boat trips is the amount of wind out on the decks.
You can't really enjoy the scenery when you're being blown all over the place, and going inside the boat just gives you a view through a dirty window. Amazing place though. After this trip we set off back to Queenstown.
Back in Queenstown. This place is cool. I do likey. Everynight is like a friday night in Queenstown. We bassically spent the next few days/nights drinking and chilling out around Queenstown. The gondola which we took to do luging the previous week has tracks running underneath which you can walk up, so we decided to walk up one of these steep, nackering walking tracks. I also had a game of frisbee golf organised by the hostel. The frisbees were terrible though and it was verging on impossible to get them to go where you wanted. Still, got to meet more people.
After a few days lazing around and a few nights drinking and eating fergburgers I decided to get out of there and move onto Christchurch so I booked myself onto the next bus and after an 8 hour journey landed in Christchurch. I'd booked myself into the old jailhouse which is now a hostel for one night.
This was a cool hostel. It still looked like a prison and the rooms were the cells which looked pretty much as they would've before but they had normal bunk beds instead of a wooden shelf. The next night I met up again with Mark and Inga and spent a few hours with them and Sonni in the casino. Inga and Sonni were studying at Christchurch University and lived in the residental halls there and Mark had the whole of the next week playing in a pool tournament 30 mins away. So for the next week I slept in the camper outside the uni and during the day watched Mark and loads of New Zealands top pool players nocking balls into pockets at this tournament. In the end Mark came out at the last 16 of 250 ish but he did win the speed pool.
Whilst in Christchurch we played the best game of indoor crazy golf ever. We walked into the building, there was no-body there, lights were off, and a lady came out put the lights on and the whole place lit up like santa's grotta. All the holes where made up off little buildings with lights and
moving parts. There were a few where the ball would dissapear, go up a lift, then reappear somewhere miles away. Really cool place.
After a week of pool in Christchurch we moved onto Kaikoura which was a nice change from the city. Right on the coast, Kaikoura is a lovely little town where we went and saw some baby sea lions in a lovely spot under a waterfall and then some adult ones out next to the sea. Then the day after that we went snorkelling with dolphins. Unfortunately there wasn't a great turnout of dolphins, the previous day the trip had been cancelled due to there not being enough action. But we did swim with some dolphins whilst making stupid noises to attract their attention, and we caught a glimpse of a whale too whilst on the boat.
Next we spent a few nights in Nelson but didn't really get up to much there, the weather wasn't the best. We just checked a few bars out before catching the ferry back upto the North Island to meet up again in Wellington with Sanni and her friend Sonni. Sanni & Sonni.
