The JailhouseThe JailhouseThe Jailhouse

Our converted prison room was actually pleasant...dunno what these crims are whining about
We arrived, weary but unbeaten to Christchurch airport after an epic 30 hour journey. Stumbling out of the airport with the weight of expectancy...and a blooming enormous backpack we were greeted with our first taste of a truly pleasant race of people.

"Howzit folks. Where ya headed?" said the bearded Kiwi bus driver, "To the Jailhouse please" we mumbled. The bus journey was through traffic and non-descript NZ a roads so we just concentrated on not falling asleep. We arrived after a bit of banter with a local couple about whether their house was still standing after some heavy winds. Everyone talks to everyone else here.

We checked in and were directed to our cell, right next door to the preserved cell which has been kept intact from its previous criminal inhabitant...graffiti n' all. At this point it all became a blur and we woke up 4 hours later, just in time to meet Kayleigh's friend Laura, who work as a doctor in the local hospital. Laura and her partner Ollie (also a doctor...we were in safe hands) took us to their local 'The Pegasus' which served up a hearty pub dinner, black ale and a warm fire. As if it were intentional, a country folk band started playing and we had a superb intro to Kiwi life.

Next stop Kaikoura!!! We will however be going back to Christchurch and post some rather more...picturesque photos...
