2nd Attempt at The Ice

I woke up at 7:30 for breakfast and a shower, then hopped on a shuttle to the CDC -- check in my bags, put on my cold weather gear again, waited a bit then boarded the plane. We taxied about for a half hour before they informed us that the wind above New Zealand was too rough too take off and would be for the next hour, so they dropped us off back at the terminal where I ate the bag lunch they gave to me (worst meal so far) and found a stash of books to choose from that previous passengers had left.

Around 1pm everyone was on board the plane again and not too long from then we were in the air and on our way. Unfortunately, an hour into the flight the plane started making some odd noises. Apparently the top hatch had a leaky seal and was keeping the cabin at a lower pressure than was desired. The pilot turned us around, set us down back at the base, and waited around for repairs. At 4 p.m. we were told there would be no flight today and that

hotel reservations were made for us once again.

On the way out, some one made the comment, "I can't imagine that a leaky seal would do much harm to a plane that gets holes shot into it."

After this, I read at the hotel for a while, had supper with Hyomin at a traditional Japanese restaraunt, and read some more.

Next attempt: tomorrow morning. Up at 4:30. Fingers crossed.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrr Gall
You have the patience of Job my friend. Keep on trying. I hope the Japanese fortune cookie read as follows: "You will take off successfully for Antarctica tomorrow morning on a safe flight." Wouldn't that be nice?

What's the name of your book? How are you liking it? And what is the CDC?
2nd January 2009

The book is Therapy by Jonathan Kellerman - not the type of book I normally read, but I had 2 minutes to pick from a shelf of used, forgotten books. Not bad, though. Sorta like CSI. The CDC is the Clothing Distribution Center, where Extreme Cold Weather (ECW) gear is issued (the government likes acronyms).
