free lance Each piece was done by one or more idividuals here at McMurdo. Anyone who wanted to submit something could. NSF has grant money for artists to come down here, and I have met a couple of the ones here now, but none of them submitted anything for MAAG.
The art show was just a one night thing. There is no permanent gallery. It was more of a social gathering than anything. The slogan was "Show us your sh*t". The night started with the art show, beers, and food, led to some poi spinning, and ended with live music, more drinking, and dancing.
Pretty much any job you can think of is available here (the place has to be self-sufficient because of its isolation), so the pieces came from all sorts of different people. There were more than what I took pictures of, but all are gone now, to who knows where.
???? What's the story on the art pieces? Where are they? Are they made by researches at your base? Are there more of them? Are you going to make something to add to the collection?
hmm... i can commiserate with you on the subject of dead batteries...good luck. windchill of -40 here this morning.
you sure are meeting a lot of royalty/diplomats on this trip. tell the prince to get his minions to bring fresh batteries, stat.
Question How many people are there with you? I mean..you got 9th place? That means that there are atleast 8 people there that run a faster than 7 minute mile. There aren't even that many people in the entire city of Spring Valley that can run that fast..So either there are a lot more people there than I thought or the few people that are there are really fast nerds.
The book is Therapy by Jonathan Kellerman - not the type of book I normally read, but I had 2 minutes to pick from a shelf of used, forgotten books. Not bad, though. Sorta like CSI.
The CDC is the Clothing Distribution Center, where Extreme Cold Weather (ECW) gear is issued (the government likes acronyms).
Arrrrrrrrrrrrr Gall You have the patience of Job my friend. Keep on trying.
I hope the Japanese fortune cookie read as follows: "You will take off successfully for Antarctica tomorrow morning on a safe flight." Wouldn't that be nice?
Cool Hello. Nice BLOG! Mom likes the little animals..as do I. My main question is, why did Maya and Leah give you stuffed animals and not me? HOW DARE. Anyways, hope you're having a good time in New Zealand and safe travels to Antarctica. Oh and mom says hi.
