08/05/2008 Days 1-17
After a 3 hour ferry crossing acroos the cook straight we arrived in Wellington...( the capital city) it looks a very nice place, will be here about 4 days, which will be enough time to check it out.
In the end i ended up spending 6 days as we missed the bus so had to wait another 2, no probs though as its was a nice place.
Me and rob had a good few nights out and met some cool Maori guys...there so friendly people, like big friendly gaints. We also went to the Ta papa national museam, which is all based on new zealand culture and history, and just basically chilled out.
next stop is Taupo.
We arrived in taupo which is set on a mazzive laks...the lake is the largest creator lake in the world and is 600 sq km......its huge. its a cool little town and the weather nice as well so all is good.
Rotorua.
Rotorua is where a lot of the geothermic activity is, so there lots of mud pools and hot springs, which basically makes all the town smell of rotting eggs, this is due to all the sulpha being released.
When we arrived we first went to the zorbing which is basicly rolling down the a hill in a big ball filled with water...COOL...a lot of fun!
Then we went to the polanisian springs. This is all differnt bathes and pools filled with natural volcanic springs.
In the evening we went to a traditional moariu night....for some history and a show and a good good feed...lots of meat and gravy. A eventfull day!
The next day i went White Water Rafting on the Kaitiaki river (grade 5 rapids) just out side Rotora, it was awesome, luv'd it.....the highlight being the 3 waterfalls we got to go down, really got the adrenalin pumping and i got to go at the front of the raft so all was good. One of the waterfalls was a 7 meter drop (apparantly the highest waterfall rafterd in the world?) it was quality as the whole raft goes under water......as you can see from the pics.
Quite night after as a earlie bus to the big city of Auckland.
On the way we stoped at a little village called HOBBITON it was where they filmed the set for the hobbits in the film......again very boring for
me as i havent got a clue what everyone is on about, but at least when im home i'll be able to watch and relate to it........MAYBE?
Arrived in Auckland....and to be honest it's just remindes just of Austrailla (Brisbane) as in a big city but not with a englanish feel, i think what im getting at is that, basicly every city in the end looks and feels the same no matter where you are in the world (with a few exeptions of course....DELHI, MUMBIA, ha ha ) but only a day here before going to the bay of islands for a few days further north,as the weather is really nice at the minute, 17c in the day so a nice change from the south island. Ill be back here though for a few days before flying out to Fiji. SWEAT AS BRO!!!!!
I stoped in a small town called Paihia for a few days, the weather was'nt great so didnt actully manadge to get out and do a trip of the islands, had a fishing trip planned but no such look. But we did go to Russel, which was the very first settlement in NZ and also went to
the peace treaty museam.
It was really relaxing up there and definatly better staying there a few days than auckland. oh gutted whilst i was up there i lost my camera, and quite a lot pf pics aswell, the funny thing is i was'nt even drunk.....i lost it in the day whilst out on a leisurly stroll.
Back in Auckland for a couple of days now before flying out on sunday. On Friday night i met my mate from school and ended up finding out that another two guys from school were also living there, we had a really good night out and the next day they drove us to a small town called Phia, which is where the guys go surfing...its in the west coast....really nice place and was really cool to see the lads so happy.....................good on them
I've loved New Zealand, loved the scenery, the people and all the mad stuff you can do hear.
I prefer the south island as its just so dramatic and there's so much to see and do.
The North is very differnt scenery wise...i supose its slighlty more like england. But the north has a bigger Maori culture...and like ive
said before there so friendly.
New Zealand is definatly a place i will come back to.
Bring on FIJI! and some sun hopefully?
