Hello everyone
Ello, How are Ya????? ha ha getting down with the lingo! We are, as always, having fun. we are very chilled at the moment and are just loving the van. we really want to get one when we get home. we have even joked and said that we might get one and live in the street outside marts house. imagine that.!!! Obviously not.
I have got a confession to make i am afraid. we both have added to the road kill here in new zealand. mart killed a little bird the other day. the poor thing did not fly away quick enough. All of his friends came and flew down to him after he was squashed. i did also kill a bird. But it was partly his fault. he flew into the front of the van as i was driving. R.I.P little guys.
We are now nearly done here up north of Auckland and are now today going to make our way south of the main city. We have been to Whangarai, where we stayed two nights. we went for a nice walk in the morning to some lovely waterfalls. there seem to be so many
Tree hugger
Call me swappy! waterfalls everywhere we go. very pretty. this one was quite powerfull and we were getting sprayed by the water. After that we went to a kauri forest. these are the massive trees that grow here in new zealand, they grow for so many years and just grow so big. they look fake really. They are on average 30metres high and 2.5metres across. (the same trees as we share at the carving place, with the stiarwell in the kuari tree). Mart tried to give this tree a hug, but as you can see his arms did not fit. It was a very relaxing day but we did have a little rain in the afternoon, which was a bumer as we wanted to go for a walk around the town marina. whangarai was nice but was quite a poor town and we got talking to a guy in an internet cafe, and he said that there is alot of unemployment and alot of drunks. we were not bothered by any drunks mind. we were also told not to go for a walk at night into the town as there are gangs in whangarai. we were shocked as it looked like a remote,
quaint town with lots of country folk.
I must tell you that mart is so domesticated now. i have him trained well. He now has daily cooking lessons and he is learning fast.(although he managed to burn scrabbled eggs this morning, ha ha, what a legend). Jackie when he gets home , you are not allowed to cook for him. he is gonna do it for you now!!!!! ha! I did have a little chuckle at him whilst we were in whangarai as it was raining, and we did our washing there so we had some washing to hang out. mart was so paraniod about the rain that he was stood outside and as soon as he felt a drop of rain, he would rush to the washing line and pick it in. then he would rush out on the next dry patch in the sky and hang it out again as soon as the rain stopped. ha, so funny. bless him!!
We left whangarai, after our two nights and we then cruised to Owera, which is a nice town with a nice long beach just north of Auckland city. Actually everywhere here seems to be near the
sea, its great! we are tempted to go for a game of crazy golf here today!!!We love a little competition. by the way i am winning 17-16 on the Uno. i was about 10 games ahead but mart must have cheated to catch up with me. we love a good old serious game of Uno.
Yesterday as we travelled to Owera we went to a marine reserve on the east coast. trudie said that this is a must see, and it was. The sea life is just crazy and you can stand on the edge and just watch all the fish swimming around. there were giant snapper ( here you have snapper and chips, but its an expensive fish to have in restuarants) in the water. so big. we went on a glass bottom boat here so that we could go out around the reserve. It was really good. although we did not see any dolphins, like connor did when he did it. we did see lots of sting rays, fish and sea life. The tour was done by a marine biologist. it was so good as you actually learnt interesting things about the marine life and why they
are there etc. we even know that seaweed is in ice cream. weird!!! Loved the boat trip it was only 15 pound for us both for about an hour. The photos did not come out too well though. they also said that there are sharks in the waters but they are so afraid of us that they are seldom seen. although they did say that about 4 years ago in the marine reserve, whilst the glass bottom boat was looking at a cute penguin, all of a sudden a 4 meter great white jumped up and ate it. poor penguin!! mart thought that that was great. I am never going in the sea here!!!!!!! they also said that last week there were about 8 dolphins in the marine reserve swimming and playing around with all the people swimming and snorkelling in the sea. typical. Would of loved to see that.
well for now that is about it, just a short update. we just wanted to add a few pics that we have taken, as we know how much you Blog fans love our updates. we must say that marion roach is gonna get an award when we get home
the bed
Suprisingly one of the comfiest beds on the journey so far. Even mart sleeps like a log, even though the bed ends half way up his shins!!!!!!!! for being the ultimate blogg updater. So good to hear from you all. Missing everybody lots and lots. wish i was home to share your birthdays with you both helen and katy. keep an eye out for the birthday messages. we have some funny things in mind.
Love you all lots and lots
