Begonia at the Botanic GardensYesterday we spent almost completely on the bus. Shaheen and I did a heap of crosswords and even broke out the travel Chinese Checkers. It took us about 12 hours to get here because we hit some construction traffic on the road, so we didn't get to our hostel (World Wide Backpackers) until nearly 9pm.
However, today was wonderful! Our best day in NZ thus far. We woke up early and ate our free breakfast. Then, after dropping by the ferry to reserve our tix for the next day, we walked around town for a while. We passed the Beehive and went up Lamdon Quay and then took the cable car up to the botanic gardens. We hiked around there all morning and it was beautiful - especially the rose garden and the begonias. After lunch, we went to the Te Papa museum. It’s a huge place and there is so much to see. We tried to do it all, but we’ll definitely need to drop in again and finish up the next time we’re in town. It’s only the second NZ museum I’ve been to, but based on what I’ve seen so far I have to say that museums

The Beehive in NZ are awesome! And so informative! I particularly enjoyed the section on wool/sheep. Did you know that there is a Tea Cozy Appreciation Society? Now you do! We finally left the museum around half past 5 and then wandered around the streets a bit more. There is currently an X-games thing going on here, so we walked through that and saw some crazy guys on bikes jumping over big mounds of dirt etc. We eventually made our way to Cuba St. for some Mexican food and on the way we saw this 15-year-old kid playing the drums and he was awesome! The rest of the night was spent back at the hostel, where we hung out with a bunch of long-term residents and watched our first NZ TV and enjoyed the hostel’s free wine.
