A far off view of the summit taken from the Ferry
On Monday (9th) I went for my induction at Owairaka District school - a junior school in one of the suburbs of Auckland.
After a chat with the headmistress we went for a tour round the classrooms and to meet some of the children and staff...
i couldn't get over how spacious the place is... whereas at work we have one 3 storey building - here there are at least ten one storey buildings with three or four playgrounds, climbing frames, an outdoor swimming pool, a massive hall and the office space! Well lets just say the GHS admin team would be green with envy!

After that we made our way home on the bus and Emily and I discovered a convenient shopping centre on the way home which enabled us to buy some more food! (On sunday we made so much Macaroni cheese that we will be eating it all week)

This morning (Tuesday) saw my first proper day at the school but unfortunately the music teacher Robyn wasn't in as her daughter was sick. This meant that i spent the day with class Zero/One or room 2. The five year olds that started school last week. My

day was mainly spent listening to them read, drawing their names in the playground with chalk and having them copy it and then we had swimming this afternoon. Standing on the side getting splashed proved quite refreshing but then being on changing duty when they have 15 minutes before the end of the day is a challenge! (The other challenge i had today was that if i read to them in an English accent they couldn't understand what I was saying and therefore had to speak in a Kiwi accent all day! Poor Emily has to teach phonics tomorrow which she is finding extremely interesting as she can't figure out what the teacher is saying! I am however getting used to being called Bith instead of Beth.)

Tomorrow hopefully I will get to do some music!

Attached are some Rangitoto pictures from mine and Greg's trek on Sunday
