My DipolmaI had to drink a lot of wine to earn this. yum....
Tonight I was awarded yet another diploma, will I ever get away from school? I thought I was ridiculous with 180'ish semester credits, but I've added yet more to my file cabinet. I received a diploma in Wine Sensing (Tasting) tonight. Probably the most enjoyable, relaxing and educational sheep skins I have.
We closed out the programme with a sampling of 40 or so wines for 20 people. The professor (Master in Wine) brought in his collection for our edification and enjoyment and enjoy we did. Too bad I've got work tomorrow.
The professor was one of the most entertaining, informative and down to earth instructors I’ve ever had. I've been know to fall asleep in other university courses, but I never fell asleep in his, even after sampling a dozen wines. I'm looking forward to taking his NZ wine programme that begins in June.
Best lines from the class that I remember:
"Astringency is the sensation caused by tannin; it's that -- 'Sunday morning mouthy feel after a big/hard night of drinking'".
"In this programme I want to encourage you to be varietal promiscuous"
"Now that's a knife and fork wine (body of the
wine) - you can almost chew it"
"That wine sulks like a miserable old wet dog -- and tastes like it too"
and they could just keep going on and on....
