Hi all, Back again. Off to the lovely islands of Fiji. We got picked up at 7:30am and was transported by coach to port Denarau marina. We left almost straight away and landed on Bounty Island by 9:30am. It was paradise. well not quiet but it was lovely. We were in a massive dorm with 30 beds or so but we didnt mind. It was air conditioned and was the cheapest accomodation by far. The resort had a pool and loungers to relax. That day we sunbathed and took in the excellant weather and views. We booked 3 nights on Bounty Island, 2 in Octopus Bay and 3 at Wayalailai resort. The first 3 days flew over and we had sunshine every day. The only bad day was when we decided to go diving and the water was very choppy, so the boat ride back from the dive site was interesting to say the least. We went diving to the wreck of the salamanda and dove around and through the wreckage. It was a great dive with good visibility.
Every night @ the resort the staff would sing a selection of songs in Fijian and after 3 nights of the
same songs myself and Craig could sing along. Craig would read his Richard Branson book most days and i would alternate between reading and jumping in the pool. The island was pretty small and one day we took a kayak and rowed around the island. It only took us 15-20 mins with a rest half way in the sun. We really felt at home on Bounty island.
We caught the Yasawa Flyer to our next destination. The ride took about an hour and we stopped at a few resorts before we reached ours. Im not uncomfortable around water but i do get nervous when we are travelling with all our stuff, including electronics and we get transported on tiny boats to the shore. The boats are packed with people and we are getting wet, god knows how our bags are doing on the other boat. We are kindly welcomed on the island by staff singing and a refreshing mocktail. After been shown to our dorm we grab a spot by the pool. Topping up our tans before we hear the giant shell thingy being blown for lunch. The menue is a selection of 10 dishes to choose from which is
nice as most places you do not get to choose. On most of the islands the food comes with the accomodation and you have to pay that price to stay as you can not buy food any other way. Luckily the food in Octopus resort is really nice. After more sunbathing we head off in a little boat to try our hand at hand line fishing. We are full of expectation as this is our first time. We are joined by Leanne, Pippa and Caroline who become our friends whilst on Octopus. Well myself and Craig do not catch a damn thin but one of the girls catches a decent sized fish big enough to take back and cook for lunch the next day.
After fishing we have a quick shower so we dont smell of fish we settle down for the evening meal of tuna steak and ice cream for dessert. Our table was a mixture of English and Americans which turned out to be an excellant mix for our team winning the quiz. Yes i did say we won. There were a few rounds of Fijian knowledge, music and talent. We didnt have much talent but with
the help of Craig and the American guy we flew ahead in the music section. We won a jug of shots for winning the round and a champagne breakfast on the beach for the overall quiz. Our talent was building a human pyramid and all taking shots whilst in that position. It would have been good had not 2 other teams used the pyrimid in their talents so we did not score to well on that. After the totals were announced we were the clear winners but they wanted to do the last word scramble so our team along with 2nd place lined up. I did not expect to be any good but i ended up guessing the correct answer. It was JOHN TRAVOLTA. whoop whoop we had won. We were all chuffed and could not believe it. We all went to bed wondering what we would be having for breakfast.
The next moring it was very windy and we ended up having a very nice breakfast with plenty of sand. The champagne stretched to just shy of a full glass each but it was the feeling of victory that we all liked. Craig had predicted that we would
win the quiz whilst fishing the previous day but no one actully believed him. I was not a hundred percent so i spent the rest of the day lying by the pool or napping on my bed in the air con. We said bye to Pippa and Caroline and settled by the pool for show performed by the staff. It was a good night and they even had us dancing a fijian dance around the pool.
Our last day in Octopus resort and we decided to go diving. The visibility was great and we saw alot of coral and fish but nothing worth reporting. The boat came by that afternoon to take us south for our final days on Waylailai. We had high expectations after leaving Octopus but we were already prepared for the cold showers that the ecohaven offered.
