Bula (Hello, Goodbye, thank you, bless you)
well it has been a while since i have been on here. two weeks in Fiji has been the BEST!. i will start from the beginning.
First night we stayed on the main land it was unbelievably hot and humid, we didn't have air con just a fan blowing around hot air. we got up very early the next day to make our way to the boat to start our Fiji adventure.
First stop Bounty Island which was about 30 mins boat ride. Bounty was beautiful as we arrived you had the locals great you with a song (this is the same for every island). they filmed the 1st celebrity love island here. it was quite strange swmimming in a pool i remember from the TV. we had three nights here, the dorm was nothing special about 10 bunk beds, but there was air con so i was not gonna complain. All the food on Fiji was all inclusive....so basically you get what you are given. Bounty island food was nice but very limited choice. I fancied a bit of pampering so i had a very nice massage and pedicure on
the beach. we also kyaked around the whole island, it only took us about 30mins. so by day we where chilling by the pool and by night we where getting entertained by the locals getting dressed up singing and dancing.
next stop was Octopus Resort, another two hours by boat. this was our favorite place tho!! we had four nights here and we where in a four bed hut sharing with a German lady, it was also our first experience of the mozy nets. we meet alot of people on this island, not just backpackers but couples to as this was more of a resort place. The food was amazing to, the pool was set in a very relaxing garden just off the beach. the weather was not to great, but it is still the rainy season. i also caught a bloody cold (of all the places) one night i was very ill and the manager got quite worried i had come down with a really nasty bug that had been going around but i was all good the next day. The bathroom was open air, which was alot of fun when we had torential down poor. i had
my first taster to crab racing on one of the nights . i think my crab fell asleep, or was scared into its shell but that could of been me shouting 'GO BOB' at the top of my voice. Anna one the Limbo competition to one night and won a bottle of bubbly which we shared with some girl we had meet. one of them was really nice and stayed with us for the rest of our trip island hopping.
next stop Manta ray, this was only 1 1/2 hours on the boat. The place was set in the Jungle. the dorm had 32 beds!!! it was literally a trek to the shower and the eating area. It was an eco friendly resort so they had a long drop tollet but it still took me 10 min trying to figure out where the flush was 😊 plus there was a horrible wiff of you know what comming from the long drop every so often. the beach was not the best but great snorkeling until i sore a sea snake and that was snorkeling over with, especially as some fiji guy told me they where 30 times more venomous than
a Rattle snake. to be honest i was quite glad we only had two nights here, and the last night i was covered in bed bug bites from head to toe..it looked like i had some disease.
our last and final stop was the island right at the top of the island group. Oarsmans bay. now this is why i came to Fiji. it was another league to any destination i have ever been. the sea water looked like smimming pool water the sand was pure white. the dorm was only 13 beds, everyone staying got to know each other as we where the only people staying on the island. there was two guys we got on with but god where they posh, one had just finished uni at oxford and the other in Switzerland. by day we snorkeled lazed around and by night we eat and drank lots of cavar. it is a very traditional drink, it is used for ceremonies. to me it tasted like mud water and makes your toungue go numb but i have never had such a good night sleep. when we drank it, the chef would hand me a coconut cup, i
would clap once say Bula drink this stuff in one then hand the cup back and clap three times to say thank you, this had to happen every time i drank. the staff where so friendly they made such an effort , by the end of my stay i knew new all the locals life history and who was related to who. i was very sad when we left we had such a good time there, (apart from the chefs hourse chasing me down the beach but thats another story).
it took us about 6 hours to get back to the main land, we tried to sock up some last Fiji sun. when we got to the hotel we treated ourselves to a private room with air con. it was like luxury i had almost forgotten that hot water came out of the shower tap. and we celebrated by straitening our hair (which may sound very strange) but it has been 7 weeks almost and its nice not being one big knot.
leaving Anna was very hard we have become very close, and we have had such a good laugh the whole way.
i also could not
belive my luck i was upgraded on the flight from Sydney to Bangkok, they over booked economy so put 5 lucky people up to premium and one was me!!!
i have met Matt know god he is white 😊 we best get him some sun!!!!
