BULA everyone!!!! (That means hello/welcome in Fijian!!)
Arrived in Fiji on the 9th Feb (Happy Birthday Dad!!) to a group of Fiijians singing the Bula song at the airport, was so sweet! I couldnt believe how hot and sticky it was!!! About 30 degrees and that was at night!! Im not sure how the hell you are supposed to sleep in that sort of heat lol!! Thank god our hostel on the mainland was air conditioned!! Woke up the next morning to find that i had been bitten to death by mozzies in the night, the little buggers!! Counted them on the way down to the harbour, but lost count at 100 and that was only on ONE leg!!! Eugh they were horrendous, everyone kept pointing them out to me too! (As if i didnt know they were there lol!)
I was really surprised actually about how green Fiji was, i kinda imagined it to be more dusty looking, but there were lots of beautiful green fields and tropical trees, really gorgeous!! Got on our ferry to the Yasawa island and waited for the girls to get on! Sarah and Looce had already been in Fiji for two days
and we were gonna meet them at Kuata! But guess what....... yup Kuata came and went, and still no Looce or Sarah!!! Bloody typical haha!! A few hours later though we caught up with them, turned out we werent supposed to meet them there at all! Crossed wires, lol!! Nevermind we were all back together again!! So surreal though bumping into the girls on a ferry in the middle of the sea in Fiji, very STRANGE, lol!!
We stayed in Oarsman Bay resort on Nacula island for the first two nights! It was gorgeous (pure paradise really) and the staff were so friendly! they all sang to us to welcome us onto the island! The dorms were lovely and they had mozzie nets this time YEESSSS!! Hopefully no more to add to my collection haha! The beach was stunning, perfect golden sand and the clearest water you've ever seen!! Spent the days just chilling out at the sea and swimming, bliss!! We all ate together at night by lamps and the staff sang and danced with us! Was soooo funny!! One night we saw a crab the size of my arm practically, on the way to the dorms, it
was HUGE!! Only down sider to Fiji was the amount of bugs, eugh if you're squirmish like me anyways, lol!!
On our last day at Nacula we visited the local village and we got taken around their churches and even their school!! We were hosted by the children for half an hour with songs and dancing, it was amazing!! their voices were brilliant! I just cant believe how friendly the Fijian people were, so welcoming and happy all the time, they were great-i loved them!! The elderly Fijian ladies make lots of gorgeous shell bracelets so bought one of those!
Spent the next night at Davids place on a different island, we werent really impressed actually! there was no-one there to greet us and we were pretty much the only ones there! (I know its not there peak season what with the rain but it was really eery!) I think i only saw 2 staff the whole time too, very strange!! But we got our own private bures (huts to you and me) which were really cool!
We decided to spend our last night on the islands at Longbeach which had been recommended to us and
i have to admit it was my favourite! All the staff were lovely, they chatted to us like friends rather than guests (they had learnt my name) and there were lots of people around! I think it was partly to do with the fact that there was a village on the island, but it was nice to see everyone get together in the evenings to play volleyball with the guests too! Would have loved to join in, but they were pretty competitive and was scared id let the side down, haha!! Everyone spent the night together playing cards and games, Fijians and guests alike so that was pretty amazing!! We met this one guy who had actually been accepted into the tribe and had been living there for a few months! How cool is that? It worked out, he had been accepted as the chiefs brother so now everyone was his brother and sister and all the children (even if they are not his own biologically) are his children too, weird how it works, huh?
But yeah that was pretty cool so we had an awesome time there and i was quite sad to leave actually! Although looking forward
very much to getting out of the sand and away from all the bugs, lol!! We were quite lucky really as we'd had perfect sun every day in their rainy season and the only time it had rained was in the evenings and aswe left the Yasawas! Couldnt have hoped for better weather!
Cant believe we're off to Australia next, no more planes for quite some time, im gonna be a dab hand at this flying malarky by the time i get back, i have to admit im definately not as scared as i was!
Love you all lots and lots! And missing you all! Keep in touch xxxxxxx
