I got to Fiji on the 7th of September, its only a short flight (three and a half hours) so that was good.
Basically I rocked up not knowing when and what islands I wanted to go too, had my Bula boat pass and some accomodation vouchers so depending on how much I liked the island I decided where I was going on a day to day basis when I got on the boat as it was easy enough to do it that way and also much more fun! It also wasn't that busy in Fiji, there is a Coo at the moment (not that you could tell as it was perfectly safe and has been going on since February I think) so it seemed to have scared alot of tourists away which is a shame but it was busy enough for me.
Spent a few days in Nadi which is on the mainland then I decided to go to one of the Yasawas islands the one furthest away to get the four hour boat journey out of the way and then gradually make my way back down to the mainland. My first stop was Nanula Lailai which was
Nanuya Lailai
Where the old film "Blue Lagoon was filmed" where the 80's Blue Lagoon film was filmed, we had a mad host called Queenie who was incredibly camp and had some very funny stories to tell!
Next was Matacawalevu where I stayed on Long Beach which surprisingly enough had a very beautiful long beach where I met some fantastic people from the UK and we had some fun times with the locals who were so nice we had them dancing on tables to the travelling song of 2007, Mrs Jones by Counting Crows! We also played a game they had made too called "flicky flicky" sounds weird I know but its a board game with basically similar rules to pool but you have to flick the pieces in - different hey, although bit of a dodgy name! We also visited the local village and also the local school there and they sung some songs to us and showed us some of their work, it was so sweet.
Then it was on to Naviti which was really quiet with hardly any people on it, I felt like I was on a deserted island! I just sat in the hammock by the beach and read my book then in
the evening there was some entertainment and the locals performed the Bula dance which they made us do too! Then I had my first taste of a Kava Ceremony where they all sit around and drink it and it relaxes you and gives you a slightly numb tongue, its tradition in Fiji and not a drug its all perfectly legal and is made from the roots of a tree that are then crushed into powder form (sounds dodgy hey) and then its mixed with water and the water then turns muddy looking and it pretty much tastes like dish water to be honest but I had to have a go!
Next stop was Kuata which was ok, again very quiet but not much going on so left the next day and went to Waya Lailai which was lovely and again there was entertainment. One thing I forgot to mention was on most resorts especially the Fijian run ones the electricity is turned off between 10 and 11pm and it literally is pitch black, you can't even see your hand in front of you which turned going to toilet in the middle of the night quite a mission!! Especially because
most of the toilets where outdoors and sometimes just a little shack and you can't see a thing and all I can think about is spiders!
I then took a stop at one of the Mamanucas Islands - Bounty Island which for all you reality tv lovers (yes you Mum!!) was where Celebrity Love Island was filmed and they actually use the pool and the area they slept in as a bar, and the love shack was still there but only the shell of it but you could just about make out where everything was. Really stunning island and good food.
Then onto my last Island which was South Sea Island in which you could walk around it in all of four minutes, I also won the crab race and my punishment was drinking beer through a snorkel - how attractive but I nearly did it!! I take after my dad in that area!
Then it was back to the mainland to sort out my washing before heading to my next destination!
