Heaven
Relaxing on Robinson Crusoe- this is the life!! Well, it's been a while but that's because the internet access here is crap!!!! I guess I am on a remote island in the pacific so it's to be expected!
I first joined the Feejee experience bus the day after I arrived. That first day was awful, I was so tired, hot and lonely I just wanted to come home!!! Not one single person spoke to me, until the evening when I met some people in my dorm and had dinner with them!! One of the girls was also doing the Feejee experience and also wanted to Scuba Dive so we agreed to stick together- hooray I had a friend!!!!!
So, out first stop was supposed to be a place called Mango Bay, but we jumped off the bus earlier to go to an island called Robinson Crusoe, owned by two guys who apprently are called Robinson and Crusoe (really not sure how true this is, but anyway good story!). The island was fantastic and had been recomended to us by a load of people who had come back, and also for the diving course there. The Fijian guys who ran the activities were so funny and there was
Learning to dive
(left to right) Me, Melissa, Tommy (our instructor) and Sharon in our "sexy" wet suits!! always something to do, from jewelry making from coconut shells, to kayaking, to learning the local dance etc etc. However, we decided to do the diving certificate which was run by a German couple. There we met another girl also doing the diving. We had such a good three days and the coral and fish were amazing. We saw loads of Reef Sharks, but our second dive was the most exciting. We saw a dolphin on the way there and a Nurse Shark (they can be dangerous during mating season- it's not mating season thank god and it was asleep!!). Anyway we are now certified divers!!!!
So, after the island where we met loads of people- it was so sad to say goodbye, we hopped on the bus and went to Mango Bay. Along the way we stopped at a local village, and met the chief and tried some Kava which is a mild narcotic and is drunk in ceremonies. Most people here drink it to sleep though, but it looks and tastes like muddy dish water!!. When we arrived at Mango Bay I got eaten alive my mossies, and am going to have loads of scars where I've
Sand Boarding
I fell off my board and got a mouthful of sand- it was so embarrasing, but fun!!! scratched myself to death as nothing stops the itch!! Anyway, despite this the resort was so nice. We met 3 Canadian girls who are lovely and also on the Experience bus. We had a fantastic time again, snorkelling, going on a boat trip and just relaxing.
We then joined the bus again a couple of days later to go to the capital Suva, but that day I had come down with a bit of a cold and was feeling so rough. Everyone went on a hike on the way which I was really looking forward to but my nose was so stuffy I just wanted to crawl to bed. To make matters worse I had a mossie bite right on the sole of my foot that was driving me absolutely crazy I tell you! So, me and 3 other girls stayed on a long boat and then went floating down the river in rubber tubes which was fun!! I got caught in a rapid though and have cut the bottom of my well bottom!!!! Ha ha ha, it hurt and I couldn't sit down properly for a while afterwards!!!! Also, it rained like you would not believe and was so cold!! I felt like I was back in Manchester!!! So, that night the others went to a night club but I headed to bed which seemed to do the trick as I felt great the next day.
Our next sto was to a place called Vollivolli, which was very nice, but I would have liked to have stayed in Suva for a bit longer. I kind of felt like I just wanted to finish the bus as hopping off turned out to be more trouble than it was worth sometimes!!! Plus the tour guides seem to be a bit put out when you ask to do so like it's an effort for them. So, the next morning I went on another dive because I'd heard that north of the island has the best coral- and it does, it was amazing, but no sharks unfortunately. Also I haven't seen a turtle yet which I really want to see!!!
So, this morning we headed off to a city called Ba where we had an Indio-Fijian curry- mmmm it was so good. We then headed off to some mud pools and a hot spring. My nose was so dry and the mud pool helped, but the hot pool was too hot for me, as my feet are full of sores from the mossies, they are doing my head in!!! No matter how much insect repellent they seem to love me, I must taste really nice!!!
So, I am back in Nadi where I started and it is my last night with the people on the bus. I have another ticket to do some island hopping, so when that's done I will try and get back to Suva.
Oh yeah I was about to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and it reminded me, they celebrate christmas here, but it is so wierd, it's too hot for santa outfits!!! Plus, they put a reggae beat to every single song (including coldplay- no word of a lie- I love it, it's an improvement!!), but the wierdest thing is hearing Noel Noel, or Little Donkey with a reggae feel to it!! It makes me laugh loads! Plus they love that Black Eyed Peas song "My Humps", which is in my head and everyone is always singing it!!
