After the Fiji Experience, myself and 7 lads went on to do a bit of Island hopping. First stop was Beachcomber Island...the party Island. On the ferry over someone mentioned that there was supposed to be a concert of some sort going on at the time we were there but as we hadn't heard anything about it we didn't really pay much attention. As it turns out, CocaCola in NewZealand had run a competition in which the winners would get to go to a fijian Island and watch the "Rock the Tropics" concert. Just so happened that the concert was the night we got there! As there is only one resort on the island we had a beach concert all to ourselves and it was awesome. I bumped into Jenny, a girl from the fiji experience that day and so we got some champagne to celebrate the good times!
We stayed in Beachcomber for a couple of days before heading across to Bounty Island, the island in which Celebrity Love Island was filmed. We were so disappointed when we got there! Our hostel dorm was like a prison, there were dead bugs and mouse pooh on the beds and no
air conditioning! Immediately Jenny and I got moved to another room. The people tehre were so rude and the food was non-existant. We booked a ferry out of there the next morning and went to Malolo-an Island recommended by some really nice couples in our room. Sadly we left 2 of the lads behind.
When we got to Malolo Island we were so happy. Immediately we were made to feel welcome. For some reason, Eleanor the receptionist at the resort, liked us and despite the dorms being full for the time we booked, she booked us in anyway! Before we sorted any admin out, she sat us down at a table, gave us some free welcome drinks and said that she had a secret she needed us to keep! She said that she'd booked us into our own Beach Bure which would usually cost $600, for the price of a dorm room at $50 including 3 meals a day. We were over the moon. She took us to our bure and we were all on such a high. Jenny and I got to share a double on suit room and the lads had the singles, we had a lounge,
a kitchen, a balcony, and we were literally 3 metres form the beach. We had our own private beach and our own hammocks to sleep on. We were in luxury! We decided to stay for as long as possible! After the first 3 days we were actually moved up into the hills into a lodge with a stunning view. Our time here was basically spent just eating, sleeping, sunbathing and playing volleyball and card games.
When it was time to leave we managed to get ourselves a speedboat ride all the way across to the mainland. We stayed in Nadi for a few nights and then I went to the pacific harbour with Rich and Steve so that they could do a shark feeding dive! We booked into the only hostel there and as we were the only guests and the crazy owner liked us, he gave each of us our own little condo! I got my very own double bed, kitchen and bathroom. It was nice to finally have some privacy. I was actually able to go out on the boat with the lads when they did their dive. The guys were all kitted up in black suits
and black gloves so that the bull sharks they were feeding wouldn't get confused with their white flesh and mistake it for food! The scary thing was, when they dived in, the dive leader chucked me a snorkel and said "get in, you can see from there!". So there I was in the open water 40meters from the Bull sharks, in just a little bikini, white flesh everywhere! There were jelly fish surrounding me and my heart was racing. I saw a shark below me and then realised what the hell I was doing! I was literally live bait. Anxious Amy took over from that point and I swam as fast as I could back to the boat. What an idiot! I then relaxed on the roof of the boat in the sunshine waiting for them to come back on board.
When we got back to the hostel we sat on the patio having a drink with an american couple next door to us. A guy walked past who looked and acted extremely drunk. As it turns out, later that night he came out to join us. I swear this guy was not human and actually at times pretended
he was in fact a dog! He was completely off his head on drugs. He told us he'd taken Meta amphetamine, coke, weed, a bottle of whisky and around 100 magic mushrooms. I don't know how the guy was alive! The story goes on, but to cut it short, in the end, he actually ended up beating himself up in his room. Literally. I could hear him shouting and crying and thuds on the wall so I peered my head around the door. He'd smashed a bottle and had gone psycho. There was blood everywhere and he was punching himself in the head! We managed to calm him down and eventually he went to bed....but what an experience!
When we got back to Nadi we'd all had enough and decided it was time to say goodbye to "Fiji time!"....next stop, New Zealand!
