So after 6 counties, 9 border crossings, 1 visa run, 7 different currencies, 6 languages, 2 weather seasons, 5 islands, 15 towns, 7 cities, 21 guest houses, 4 hotels, 4 beach bungalows, 3 bungalows, 1 dormitory, 31 bus journeys, 10 ferry crossings, 4 plane journeys, 4 tube journeys, 2 trains, 1 jeep hired, 2 new years eve celebrations, countless amounts of mopeds and tuk tuks 4 instruments, 1 huge public water fight, many cultures many beliefs many many many good times and too many beers we have finished our stay in south east Asia (and if asked yes I would do it all again) and arrive down under
We got here the 2nd may after a 5 hour flight to Darwin from Singapore, and 3 hours from Darwin to Cairns. Which is a nice place different to what was expected but still good, other than you can’t enter the sea unless you are game for risking a jelly fish attack, shark bite or maybe a salt water croc having a go at you. So they have man made beaches instead, known as lagoons here. Which are still good and very popular with travelers and the locals on the weekends boasting
its café huge swimming area sand from the beach and about 7 communal b,b,q buildings each holding about 5 Barbie’s each,
We were quick to make friends here in oz due to being in Dormitories with 9 other people, and living in what was like the big brother house. So when you move in you pray there are good people in your room and we were quite lucky other than one particular person we named Birk. She was a strange one. And we met a lad from Camberly of all places who we are traveling with at the moment.
From Cairns we have done a few trips out to the Great barrier reef, Cape Tribulation (National park) white water rafting (intense) and the River Daintree, which was interesting as we got far to close to a wild fresh water crocodile, but felt safe with the tour guide who was brilliant he knew everything he even told us how to avoid getting eaten by one, which was a relief. Then as we were walking away he told us to enjoy our trip, oh “and have a bloody good life” he shouted which has now become our departing speech to people we
meet along the way. The reef was really good loads of fish they were every where all types; my favorites are now tiger fish (nemmo) and Parrot fish. Swimming with a turtle was just funny to watch.
After a good three weeks in Cairns we are heading south to Airlie beach, on an all in package including two nights three days on a sailing boat named Broomstick, out to the Whitsunday islands for snorkeling, bbq food bring your own booze, help sail the boat, don’t wash for three days, don’t drink the water it will run out, don’t use the electrics it will drain the batteries, no reception on you phones, sleep in a tiny bed if you can call it that. And generally have a mega time. Which we did we met a hole load of good people and had a good crack with them well worth the trip definitely. From here it was back to Airlie beach then heading south again to Frazer island on arrival you have a short briefing and go and fend for yourselves with your own 4x4 with ten other people in your group some tents stoves etc and loads of Dingoes snakes spiders
What the.......
this fella was greeting us as we left our room one morning, and he was there for our return, when we left the next day and again our return slightly un nerving and what ever else you can think of.
This is were we had our first encounter with the law in oz as after a heavy night on all ten of our parts and a few other tent fulls of debauched characters we were woken by a grumpy ranger discovering we had missed a bag of rubbish and through the night had been emptied by a dingo which are dogs who like to eat people so we were all fined and left with nothing but a pile of dirty dishes which still needed washing in the sea.
We also nearly died on this Island due to under estimating the distance across one of the lakes which Gary, Adam and i swam across. and did'nt realise but it turned out to be over a km which doesn't sound a great deal but when you have had as much fitness as me the last 5 mounths believe me it is, and with the current making it feel like a tread mill you begin to panic. but i had my confidence restored when adam whos quite a big fella was telling me "not far dave easy son easy" so we kept plugging away, (drinking
the water as we went its that clean), but getting out the other side adam broke the news he was shitting himself and could see us all drowning nice.
On the way further down I spent a night in noosa which was nice as we could finally go in the sea. The bus eventually made it to Brisbane where I spent two weeks doing non other than work! I know. if I said it was easy getting back into a routine again after 5 months of nothing I would be lying so I got a pretty good job sparkying for a local firm who were doing up pubs around Brisbane. Met a group of good lads in our room from Brighton way, ended up hanging out with them most nights which was a good crack.
On the 7 June I was lucky enough to get to see the view playing in the city which was an awesome gig brought back some memories Carl and Dave. Met up with a couple of my dads mates; Nick and Barbara which was good to see a friendly and welcoming face. spent the day with them taking in some sites, and eating good home
cooked food. Sorry this has taken so long to be written and isn’t very detailed obviously I have been busy lately and will try to get my finger out from now on. once again sorry
