After the last month in cold China I was really looking forward to seeing oz & Perth and Western Oz. First Impressions of Perth were not good but like every place I have been to so far my first impressions are always wow this is not much. I'm not quiet sure what I expect when I come to these places maybe a red carpet and a marching band and I will be won over right away. After 2 weeks here now I do like Perth and the laid back attitude not to mention the beaches and the sun of cause. It's just like the UK but with sun, but it is very expensive.
The first 4 days in Perth were just browsing the city there nothing really that stands out here just another city like any other city well big town I would say but it is nice and pleasant.Ceri and i both needed to get out of the city so we planned a road trip for 7 days going from Perth, Albany, Denmark, Walpole, Margaret River, Perth,Kalbarri, Sharks bay, Monkey Mia and finally Lancelin.
The first stop was Albany which we drove 4 hours down south. Albany is
Western Australia earliest European settlement and is a nice little what I would call country town. This was our first visit to a beach in Western oz at a place called Middleton beach. The beach was long and uncrowded which makes a beach so more peaceful. Just 20k away from Albany we headed for Frenchman bay where we visited the Gap, Natural Bridge and blow holes which all most blew off my head when I stuck it down therelol. After the blow holes we had a nice drive through Denmark which is located on the edge of the Karri & Tingle tree forest. In the forest we visited valley of the giants which is a tree top walk across some very high and wobbly bridges, from here we headed to Margaret river.
Margaret River had loads of lovely little beaches near by the 2 Ceri and I spent time at were Gnarabup and Cowaramup reef and on both beaches there were no more than 10 people, this is quiet common along western Australia.
Busselton was the next stop along our little adventure to visit busselton Jetty which is the longest wooden jetty in the southern hemisphere stretching almost 2
km out to sea. Busselton was my favorite little town we visited over the whole of western Oz just something about the place that looked so nice and laid back. We then drove back to Perth but this time stayed out of the city in a national park. This was the first timeCeri and I got to see Kangaroos they were just all hanging around the hostel waiting to be fed by the owners, I did get close to them but was careful as I know they can kill a human if they really wanted to and they are not the smallest of wild animals.
The next stop on our trip was Kalbarri which was a very boring 600k drive. That's the thing about ozzy roads very long and very straight and you don't really get to see a lot, all I can say is where is my Type R when I need it I would of been in heaven travelling along these roads, at the speed limit of cause 😊 On the way to Kalbarri we went to Nambung national park to see the famous limestone formations of the pinnacle desert. We had lunch at the lovely sandy
beach of hangover bay whereCeri and I had the whole beach to our self's. We arrived at Kalbarri early evening had a swim in the paddling pool before bed after a long day driving.
The next morning we had a short drive to Kalbarri national park we checked out the views of Murchison river the z bend and Nature's Window from here we took the 4 hour drive to the little town know as sharks bay. On the way to Sharks bay we stopped at one of the best beaches in western oz called Shell beach. This beach would be lovely if it was not for thefly's that are there. I mean there are 1000s of them that all buzz around your face flying in to your nose, ears and mouth very annoying and spoils a lovely beach, from here on there were all way loads offly's on the beaches which spoil the moment.
From sharks bay we drove 23k to Monkey Mia to go and see the dolphins. I have to say I love dolphins, no I mean I really love them, sorry had to put that if Phil's reading he will laugh the rest of you
will just think I am mad. AnywayCeri and I got to feed them a fish or two then it was the long 7 hour drive back to Lancelin. Ok as I said before the ozzy roads are long and straight with a speed limit of 110KPH (68MPH) it is very hard to try and stick to this speed limit even harder when you been driving for 2 hours and you hit a 70 zone you do slow down but every now and then you just happen to put your foot down and go a little faster or in my case 15KPH faster as the nice police person told me as he pulled me over and gave me a 150 dollar fine and 2ozzy points 😞 I went 10 years in the UK with no points I been in oz for 7 days and already have 2, and I mean Ceri and I only saw 3 police cars over our 2000k+ trip HOWS YOUR LUCK lol. The 150 bucks fine really did hurt as this is 6 days in a doom room.
Moving on we arrived at Lancelin where we stayed at the YHA hostel which happened to be the best
hostel we have stayed so far in oz. I say this as oz has the worst hostels I have stayed in so far on my around the world trip.
At Lancelin Ceri and I went Sand boarding which turned out to be quiet easy and a lot of fun Ceri and I both went to the biggest sand dune on our 5th attempt and done it with no problems, well apart from when Ceri fell on her face which looked Rather painful but luckly she was ok 😊 In the afternoon we went to another national park to see the kuala bears which are the only thing in the world that I can say are more lazier than me lol.
The rest of our stay in western oz has been at Scarborough at Indgio Beach lodge which is right by the beach and is a nice place to stay but could do with a clean in places lol. But I have to say I do love the beach but most of the days we spend here there was an over cast so not as hot as it should be in WA.
Overall my time in Western oz
has been amazing we done so much in the 14 days we were hear but could of done so much more, but the only thing stopping us is money I mean oz is more expensive to live than the UK. I am going to miss western oz for it's laid back people and the beaches, but not to worry there will be more beaches when I reach the east coast... it's a hard life this travelling thinghehe 😊
