th MarchWe seem to have established a trip tradition of leaving Bakers Hill and having coffee in Toodyay and only then are we truly on our trip. With a few things still to do at home we had a slow but busy start to the day, finally hitting the road at about 10.30am not bad going but this trip is all about slowing down so we made a good start today. We are heading about 300kms north just past Jurien Bay to Green Head, then 2.5 km of dirt road to Milligans Island Eco Camp. The area we passed through is mostly farming land with wheat the major crop. With the harvest in, the fields are looking dry, brown and barren, we have had very little winter rain in Bakers Hill and it looks about the same up here. The small towns of ???? and Moora look to be only just hanging on, maintenance on the houses looks well overdue and even the Shire looks a bit sorry for itself. Pretty uneventful journey other than we getting us
on the wrong rad again thank god for Graemeās sense of direction he realised we were heading for Meekatharra which meant we were on the Great Norther Highway and we should be on The Brand Highway which is further East and heads up the coats rather than inland. We found a road that cuts across to The Brand and we were back on track. The 2.5 km dirt road is very rough corrugations and shook us and the van a bit but as it was only short we persevered, glad we did. The camp site is set out with fences around each site which are clearly number and easy to find, we are in site 7 just over the sand dunes from the beach, top spot, so well organised for a low budget site. We have no power, water or showers but reasonably clean long drop toilets, and barbecue areas with seating.Interesting first set up of the new van, went really well and we were in business in about 30mins, will get quicker as we learn the systems and work together something we did really well today. The wind is fairly strong which is good as it is keeping us
cool despite the hot sun, fly's a bit of an issue but again the wind is helping.Walked the dog down onto the beach such as it is late in the afternoon. There is a lot of seaweed and what look almost like volcanic type rocks make up the shore line. There is the wreck of a boat in the bay don't know that that is about will have to research it. Tippy had some fun paddling in the water, he still shows no signs of wanting to swim but is happy to splash around with his feet on the floor. Sat waiting for sunset but we where too early and getting hungry so headed back to camp for a quiet evening watching the birds and enjoying the peace, it is even quieter than at home.
