We left Drysdale River Station at around 8:30 am. We’ve had some problems with the diesel sub tank, it is not pumping to the main tank. Also Dad and Mum’s vehicle has issues with the headlights. All these dusty corrugated roads are hard on the vehicle electrics.
Around midday, Richard and Marion’s camper got a flat tyre passing through a water crossing with a bitumen bottom with a large pothole in the bitumen. Mum and Dad drove through ok but we got a flat in the same place as we came through, so we spent half an hour changing tyres. Ours has a bent rim too.
We stopped at Bindoola Falls for lunch. It’s a short walk from the parking area (not signed as Bindoola Falls) to the lookout area. You look out over a large gorge, with block like pieces tumbled into the centre, like a man made structure in ruins. The road around here had some gorgeous golden grevilleas and tall wattles in flower.
We drove past the Cockburn Ranges, which were gorgeous in the afternoon light as they are topped by red-orange cliffs.
They make a great background to the Pentecost River crossing. There were also boabs on this part of the road, shining silver in the sun. The Gibb River Road was quite poor through the northern part.
We continued to Parry Creek Farm where we are staying. It looks very nice, however no hot water in the shower tonight after 8:30pm it seems. It has a lot of mango trees, chooks, and a great vegie patch.

We had a busy day in and around Wyndham today. Mike, Dad and Richard did some minor checks and repairs on the vehicles, and we did some washing, then headed into Wyndham. We didn’t find a tyre place as such so we’re leaving the tyre repair until Kununurra. We had morning tea at a nice cafe (5 Rivers Cafe), then went up to the 5 Rivers lookout. Amazing views over massive tidal flats and river systems. We went back to the cafe for lunch with Mum, Dad, Richard and Marion, then we went to see the prison boab tree and some rock art. The tree has been covered
in graffiti but otherwise very impressive. There is also a massive one at the caravan park, estimated to be 2000 years old, which is amazing to think about. Mike was going to buy some port, but you can’t buy port here so we got wine instead. Port may perhaps be the root of any social problems in the area. That, and full strength beer if purchased prior to 2pm (this too is banned).
We did some grocery shopping, got fuel, and returned to Parry Creek Farm to meet the others for a visit to the Marlgu Billabong, an important bird area. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many birds in one place, it was gorgeous to see them all. We were there in the late afternoon/evening and the light was beautiful on the water. There are a lot of water lilies too. No sign of any crocodiles although they are around.
We grilled some pizzas for dinner, as we don’t have a full oven. Works out ok on the grill.
