OK, so before I start with the story, I'd just like to mention a bit about the title. Because there are so many gorgeous beaches here, and the water is teaming with wildlife, everyone encourages you to go snorkelling. However. This rusty chair was sitting in the middle of nowhere at Hamelin Bay.

They farm for black pearls at MM. You can do this trip thing where you go out to the farm, work for a few hours helping them bring in the nets etc then you get to spend the rest of the day watching the workers do their thang. At the end of the day they give you a black pearl to take home. We didnt do this, but the two girls we shared with did and they loved it.

Such big birds, and they just hung around the beach all day.

Notice he's got rid of those crap specs now and he has his fashionable ones on again.

We saw bugger all fish,but it was good fun diching around for an hour or so.

Check the colour of the sand. It was pink in parts.

This is a beach made entirely of small shells.

There is a shell quarry in Shark Bay where they dig up compacted shells to use for building bricks. This is near a place called Hamelin Bay.

Merry Xmas!
Looks amazing...I will think of the sun as we attempt some beach walks all wrapped up braving the good scottish weather in Barra over the new year!
