Rottnest Island

20/10/08 Monday Day 67 A day on the bike
Today we went to Rottnest Island which is 30 minutes off the coast of Fremantle. It’s a really nice place because there’s no cars except the 1 bus service that runs around it and everyone gets around on bicycles. We got our bikes when we landed off the boat and were looking forward to the day except for the 1 thing that was really annoying……the flies. My god were they annoying. Because of the heat, all the flies come around. The only way to get rid of them was when you were flying downhill but then once you start climbing and slow down it was like you were in one of the poor countries in Africa. It was that bad. And they’re pretty vicious too. We saw people going around with bee nets around their heads. Don’t know where they got them but they must have known something that we didn’t! Other than that the island is lovely. It takes about 2 and a half to 3 hours to peddle around it. Definitely something to do if you’re in Fremantle.
