Was going to write todays Blog in a 24 stylie, but maybe that can wait for another day! My day started very miserably as my alarm went off a 6am. Hopped straight up out of bed and into the shower to wake me up, before hitting breakfast. Whilst getting my boardies off the line i locked myself out, but luckily the back door was open which saved embarrassment. Neil then took me into the station at 6:45 since he also was getting the train into Perth for work. Found the tour guide and his jeep pretty easily and we set off having picked up a couple of others from different places. In total, one jeep, one guide/driver, an englishman, german, three taiwan girls and myself.
Our first stop after about 45mins was the Yanchep national park. Here i finally saw my first wild kangaroos, though smaller ones that i was hoping, though couldnt argue with how close we were able to get! We also went on the Koala board walk where I also saw my first wild koalas as well. Very cute, and actually quite active which was lucky as they apparently eat for an hour a day and pretty
mush sleep the rest...what a life they lead, so lucky! Back on the road, and we now had a long stint to get to Nambung national park and of course the pinnacle desert. We stopped half way for a loo break and i bought a twix, i was hungry, what can you do! At this point I will tell you that todays trip was probably 600km full circle.
Having passed loads of amazing scenery, we finally got there. Now some of the scenery was reminiscent of the UK however a lot of it totally was not, particularly just the types of tree and bush we were seeing. Drove on some friendly bumps (hills) surrounded by large stretches of fairly flat land, giving some great sweeping views. Sadly, being a tour I was unable to keep stopping to get pics like I would if Dad was driving, so despite the drive being really cool, I have nothing to show for it!
Back to the pinnacles! So no one is really sure how they were formed, though they reckon its something to do with rock layer, sand on top, roots cracking the rock layer, then wind and erosion moving sand
and some rock to leave pinnacles. We arrived and I was immediately blown away. It was like being on another planet or something. Just surrounded by the things (see pics so i needn't describe anymore!), with the most amazing yellow sand and green vegetation around giving a cool contrast of colour. We did a 4km drive around them with various photos stops including the desert lookout. Dad you would of loved the place. I wont bother trying to big it up anymore, just check the pics!
Leaving there, we drove just 10km to hit the coast, where are guide cooked us hot dogs, with salad, on a free outdoor bbq. We were sat literally ten yards from the indian ocean eating, and I am sorry but it certainly beat sitting in the "bat cave"!After lunch we then hit the roads for nearly a two hour drive to Lancelin. Now we were told to expect some fairly big sand dunes, but again, amazing! the jeep was a 4x4, so having let the tyres go, put our belts on tight, and making sure we had signed release forms (no joke), the driver, Rich, went mental! It is the most insane fun
i have ever had in anything powered by a motor in my life! the steepness that he drove at times, and the skids were incredible.
Heart rate back to normal, we parked up on the top of a dune and got the sand boards out. We basically used them like a sledge, though some people apparently can actually stand on them, I cannot! Started on our bums, but thats boring, so we went head first stylie, which when you come off, ends badly, hence the sand in my hair, amongst other places!Had a few runs of that, gapped by annoying walks back up the dune, before heading back for home. Rich kindly dropped me in Joondalup to save me getting to Perth only to come back on myself on the train.
The day in all wa amazing, great sights, great fun, and we had some really good banter between us, particularly Rich, myself and the english Guy, also Rich! He gave me some hints and reassurances about travelling alone on the east coast which was cool! I walked back from the station under the stars, just to top off the day!
I should add that yesterday i
had a largely lazy day by the pool and on the beach, just for those of you wondering!!
Look I am sorry about how few photos get posted, but I cannot put them all on. Today i took A LOT of photos, if you really want to see more, I am back in June!! Ps if you are wondering what i have on my face, thats 12days growthage!!
