We got up really early at 6.00 am to get back to Perth to go across to Rottnest on the ferry. All went well and we got to Hilary's boat harbour at 11.15 only to find the ferry had sailed and there was not another until 3.00. As we were going to Sandra and John's for supper we couldn't catch an evening boat and we wouldn't have seen much anyway. I was very disappointed but the beaches in North Perth are beautiful so we went to Ocean Reef and bought a picnic to eat at the picnic area. As we settled at a bench we were joined by large group of well dressed people and found we had gate crashed a very nice wedding in the park. The registrar declared them man and wife and we joined in the clapping.
We hope Rochellle and Nick will be very happy.
After a good picnic we went for a walk along the beach path. The limestone cliff and the dune reconstruction mean you can't get to the beach proper until Burns beach. When we got there we had a stroll along the beach.
After our walk we moved further north
along the coast to Guilderston and the Moore River estuary. The river estuary is blocked by a sand bar across the river where it meets the beach.
It is a delightful spot and we had a Devonshire tea overlooking the estuary when Dinah spotted some pelicans in the river estuary. She stalked the pelicans to get a close up picture of them but they were very large compared with all the other sea birds around. From the estuary we walked even further North along the beach for a few kilometres when we we came across a seal resting up on the beach. By the time we returned it was getting dusk and time to go and find Sandra and Johns house for supper.
It took a bit of finding along some side roads, John had been out in the morning to put up a road sign so that we would be able to find the road as it is rather off the beaten track. After some confusion with the numbering of the houses we did manage to find the drive to Sandra's house. The house numbers round here give are the distance from the the start of the road and
therefore number 26 can be next to number 91.
Their house is in five acres and some of it is garden and some is left as native bush. Sandra feeds the birds and there are all sorts of beautiful birds on the different bird tables. As it got dusk we could see the kangeroos hoping about in the garden. One of them is a very big male who lives here and has threatened John once when he try to chase him off a patch of grass they were watering to make a grass area for the grandchildren to play. It is a marvellous place with views back to the sea.
We had a lovely meal and looked at a few photographs and as it was such a early start in the morning we went to bed quite soon . We are going to see Sandra's and John's boat tomorrow so we are hoping for a good day without too much swell.
