This past weekend a blast from my Tri-Campus past, fellow goalie-partner Will and his girlfriend Lindsey came to Perth. Both Will and Lindsey are studying Law at Bond University on the Gold Coast, so when I found out they were going to spend a few days in Perth, I thought it would be great to show them around and do a few more of the sights with them!
Saturday was finally a true "spring" day in Perth, with sunny blue skies and temperatures in the low 20's. After a lazy morning on my behalf, we met Lindsey and Will in Fremantle - which is one of the coastal towns/suburbs of Perth. Freo (as its known by the locals) has a bit of character and is actually one of the oldest parts of WA - its where the convicts first landed and ironically enough the oldest building in Freo is the Prison (which we visited with Kevin & June a month ago). Along with the Prison, Freo has some other really interesting sights, including a market (which of course, we had to go to so we could sample some food, and so that Will could buy a $20 St. Louis Cardinals BP
jersey), and The Little Creatures Brewery (where we obviously had to stop in and grab a pint to see what all the fuss was about). After enjoying the afternoon, we decided to head back with Will & Lindsey to one of our new favourite suburbs - Leederville - to enjoy some great burgers and a coffee/dessert.
Sunday brought on a last-minute decision to go surfing (again) - so Kevin, Will, myself and Sheena were at the beach at 11 sharp donning our wetsuits (on yet another gorgeous spring day) to get in a bit more surfing! Having been on the Gold Coast for a year now, Will is a bit more seasoned than the rest of us, but being Sheena's first time we all went through the lesson and got to see Sheena get absolutely thrashed by the waves! After an hour-and-a-half of fighting the current, watching the pro's out on the huge waves, and catching a few of our own we were decidedly tired and headed back to the CBD. Will & Lindsey headed off on their own to check out some other sights before flying out, but we met back up with them for dinner & drinks to
see them off in proper "Sunday session" style!
Which leads me to my next revalation - travelling with crappy Australian TV has led us to treat TV shows like currency! Now having a portable hard disk, we're able to store a few more shows than just on the laptop, so once we found out that Will had his harddrive with him as well we were able to get stocked up on seasons of Entourage, 30 Rock, and Californication to last us another few weeks.
This upcoming week (along with work..boo) has a potential whale watching expedition in the works with Mike & Rita, and prep for our "3rd Honeymoon" trip to Margaret River next weekend! Lots more to see and now that we're settling in with work we have lots of time to plan new adventures and keep the blogs & pictures coming.
