Where we are
This is where we are on the map of Australia Sneaking Off for the weekend.
"Not a good weekend to choose to go away Caroline!" the words of a colleague are reverberating in my head as we head South on the freeway.
Earlier in the week Andy and I decided that we would go away for the weekend, for a change on our own, no friends, no socialising with our 4 wheel drive club, just us for a bit of down time. I wanted to go to Busselton, we have driven right past it once and we always seem to manage around the Bunbury area, but never made it to Busselton.
I have a few colleagues familiar with this area so throughout the week, we chuckled about the weather forecast which predicted a shocking amount of rain and a possible thunderstorm to come through, but I was given some good tips as to where to eat and what to see and do. It was even suggested that we cancel, but I figured that we have Roobie and we have booked into a caravan park, so we should be ok even if we end up sitting inside watching movies, drinking copious amounts of

We dashed into Woolworths on Thursday after work to pick up some fresh groceries for the weekend, we sorted out some warm clothing and wet weather gear, got everything loaded into Roobie and she was packed down ready to go.
I had planned to leave the office at 3.30 by the time I got back to the train station Andy would be waiting for me with Roobie in tow and ready to hit the freeway. Earlier a colleague had warned me that there were traffic warnings because of smoke from prescribed burning. It seemed to be ok so we took our chances on the freeway.
How lucky were we, the traffic was fairly heavy but kept on moving and the smoke, well it must have been blown the other way, there was nothing, even when we could see flames from some of the prescribed burns, the smoke seemed to go high into the sky and not across the freeway.
I had a splitting headache, unlike me, but it had been a heavy week at work (as always) and perhaps just

The phone was ringing, it was Peter, somehow I felt like we were sneaking off for the weekend and hadn't told any of our friends, I suppose we were really but it was a fairly last minute decision.
I had already arranged a late arrival with the Big 4 Peppermint Park in Busselton so we decided that we should stop at Macca's in Bunbury for a drink and salad for our tea (saved cooking when we set up).
Back on the road, it was an easy 3/4 hour journey into Busselton and no problem in finding the caravan park, that's if you use me as the navigator and not the satnav which did want to take us the weird way round!
By now of course it was dark, the caravan park had left an envelope for me with my instructions, we got through the boom gate and found our spot, fortunately very close to the amenities. The park is not very busy, it is out of season really and perhaps other people had headed away from this area because they heard about the weather.
The evening is not that cold, I am still in short sleeves, I guide Andy onto our site using a torch so that he had clarity over where to put the wheels, they are nicely marked sites with very level bays.
We set up and got cosy for the evening, a bottle of beer each and a movie before bedtime!
Sliding into bed realised we did not need too much bedding, it was warm so most of it was going to be pushed off in the night. Settling down sleep didn't really come easily, I just felt like I had been knocked out only to be awoken in the night.
So what did happen in the night to wake us both up? Ah well, you will have to wait until tomorrow's blog!
