Well, we moved on from our picturesque Murray river camp spot to a similarly beautiful spot on the Campaspe River near the small town of Elmore. However we are, this time, surrounded by many, many motor homes and caravans, being such a popular spot for the locals to camp at. We have met campers from Bendigo and Melbourne plus there is a local chapter of the Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia gathered here, of which we are members, so we have been invited to share in their Australia Day Happy Hour celebration this afternoon plus their big BBQ breakfast tomorrow! Sounds good! Yet another hot day and a swim in the river will not be far away.
The campsite was so good that we stayed there 3 nights but moved on today to get closer to Melbourne ready for our flight out to NZ at the end of the week. We stopped briefly at Bendigo to visit their huge pottery factory before moving on to our camp spot for the night which is in a National Park just outside Ballarat. We, along with the 4 other campers, got quite a fright when 2 fire engines rolled up but it
must have been a training drill as, thankfully, there doesn’t seem to be any sight or smell of fire around here.
We camped outside the car storage yard in Melbourne much to their surprise, what with a 4.30 am start it was the ideal for us. Took the tram into Melbourne earlier on and enjoyed a wonderful meal with our friend Kyra at a hotel directly opposite Flinders Station where we could watch all the happenings of this very interesting and very busy area.
Our week in NZ went very fast as expected and we really enjoyed our niece’s wedding and catching up with all our friends and relatives. We were hoping to see the green NZ we had left but it would seem that they have also had a hot summer and their grass around the country is also brown.
Back in Aus now and travelling the Great Ocean Road as we have 10 days before our departure to Tasmania. The coastal scenery is just spectacular and the towns dotted along the coast so pretty and packed with tourists. Free camp sites are easy to find and we have fallen back once again into our cruisy
nomadic lifestyle and loving it.
Today we stopped at many many spots around the “Twelve Apostles” area where huge sandstone rocks jut out of the water. The site is absolutely amazing and should be on everyone’s bucket list. A magical place especially on a beautiful day as we had with blue sky, turquoise sea, golden sand and pounding waves.
Several friends commented that they are not recieving our blog so here are the details again
