Melbourne Skyline
These Melbounrians do love their sports. Kite Surfing - its the source man. it'll change your life. Rick says:
rude joke to start to blog.
Did you hear about the Thalidomide Porn Star?
Arm like a baby's todger. Tee hee.
Hi, thanks for all your comments and emails on the spawnblog you really are quite a funny bunch! We'll try to email you all individually as well but its hard to keep track of all the emails you should write otherwise it gets rather expensive. Anyway keep up the good work and hope you are not getting too bored of all our pictures and warblings. If you are that just too bad unless you unsubscribe and you wouldn't want to do that!
Here is my brief synopsis for those that want the shortened version.
Melbourne nice city, loads of cafes and restaurants, NEIGHBOURS - brill and all my dreams have been realised now, they love their sport (Commonwealth games went by and we didnt see any which is a bit rubbish).
Rest of Victoria - Grampians (mountain range with good views) and Great Ocean road (amazing road snaking around the coast)
Tasmania - A bit remote, similar to NZ and great natural rugged stuff.
Renting vehicles is rubbish!
We're not getting bored of travelling really,
its still pretty cool, although it is a bit crap having to keep moving on all the time and is great to just to stay in 1 place for a while. Anyway better get on. Bye for now.
PS Thank you gordon and Christie for letting us stay in Tasmania - you are great.
PPS Come on you Hammers. FA Cup Semis whoo hoo.
Becky says:
G'day all!
Hope you are all well and enjoying Spring and your extra hour in bed!
We've been in Oz for three weeks now, which have been mostly characterised by transport "issues'.....for a moment I was looking back at the delights of South West Trains with something approaching fondness!
Our first few days were in Melbourne, where we failed to see any of the Commonwealth Games but DID succeed in seeing Ramsey Street and Erinsborough High on a Neighbours location tour, and also met Toadfish at a sad Neighbours meet the "Stars" night in a traditional English pub with sticky floor and MAGNERS CIDER. YEEHAAA.
Apparently Toady is a bit of a harlot at these nights and pulls anything that moves, despite the undisputable fact that he is
Lets have a look through............
the Robinson's kitchen window. Oh look its Scott and Charlene's Wedding Cake in the fridge!!! a minger. We also learnt that some ex Neighbours "stars" have fallen from the big time and are waiting tables in Melbourne (Malcom Kennedy), guiding people up the Sydney Harbour Bridge (Todd Landers) and driving trucks (fat Philip Martin). Unlucky. I hear Helen Robinson is still in the Bungle Bungles doing painting. Rick wants us to go there (a mere 1,500 trip) to pay homage to the wrinkly one.
We travelled over to Tasmania next, via a lovely 10-hour ferry ride. Q: How much poker can you play in 10 hours? A: A lot. Q: How many people can vomit for 10 hours solidly? A: Hundreds!
We hired a car from the cheapest place we could find, which was a garage with a few old bangers that they rented out. On the day we were due to return it, Gordon (who we stayed with - cheers for that fella!) pointed out that we had a smashed front headlight! Like a couple of spazzers we had been on a dirt track and a 4 x 4 came screaming down at us, throwing up loads of gravel, we had heard a smash but couldn't see any damage to the windowscreen
Erinsboro High School
Lets hope Susan Kennedy doesn't catachus loitering! so thought it was fine! So that cost us $220 (they tried to charge $400 at first!). Nightmare.
However, we did see some of Tassie's best sights; Wineglass Bay (amazing view and our first wallaby), Hobart (Salamanca market - a bit like Glasto, with lots of strange peeps selling wierd stuff), and Cradle Mountain (first snake! Eek!). We also went to Port Arthur, which is the ruin of a convict town where crazy crims who had been shipped shipped to Oz and who couldn't stop doing crimes were sent.
We then got a boat back to the mainland, where our plan had been to splash out and hire a lovely big camper van with a loo, shower, fridge and freezer, cooker, TV and DVD, to drive along the Great Ocean Road. The road runs for about 300 kms along the coast, and has amazing views and lovely beaches where we could pull up, have a BBQ and a few beers and then sleep in the van, waking up to the sound of the sea etc. Even better, Rick and I had played poker to see who had to empty the loo and he LOST. I had big plans
I'm seeing double
Look who we met! Toadfish Rebecki and Toadfish Rebecki for curry every night.
When we picked up the camper, it had all the facilities we had hoped for, but - and I guess this is not all that surprising - it was a complete old banger! 2 hours into the trip, we pulled into a carpark, only to discover the back of the van was pouring overspill water, and blue noxious bog water from the loo was leaking. NICE. Having solved these leaks, a guy in the carpark pointed out that we were leaking oil too!
We called the hire guys to see if we should call the RAC, they said nah, just out some more oil in. We couldn't find a garage so tried to drive to one the next day, after 5 mins the engine sounded like it was about to blow up so we called the RAC - the engine was completely buggered so they towed our little home from home away - we'd had a grand total of one night in it!
This was all the more gutting as the the first night had been wicked; we'd parked up by Bell's Beach, which is where the 50 year storm is at the
Friendly Wallaby
really tame one in Tasmania. Awwww end of Point Break, had dinner and beers sitting outside etc and watched surfers looking for the "ultimate ride" but that was to be all for us! The second night we camped in it on the garage forecourt (classy!). Luckily the RAC organised a car for us for free, and we got a full refund, which is lucky really cos at one point we were wearing brown trousers in case we got nailed for a new engine!
We had a cool time along the Great Ocean Road, saw the 12 Apostles - limestone stacks that stand alone just off the coast) at sunset, and we also went inland to the Grampians, and did a couple of long walks there. However, on leaving the Grampians (are you still with me - a long story but quite funny!), Rick reversed the car into a boulder scraped all of the bumper! We had a $500 excess on the car, so were getting ready to shell that out, but Rick had a brainwave and he made a little mud pie in a dish and splattered mud all over the car so it hid the damage!
We also saw loads of Aussie wildlife
in the wild - koalas, emus, roos, wallabies and three snakes so far (pretty big ones and up close on paths we were walking too. Rick screamed like a girl I have to add).
Next up Sydney and New South Wales
Catcha all later!
