The enormous 40 sq metre living plantation is soil-less, and relatively maintenance free they say. It is cultivated with a recycled watering system which filters from top to bottom.

The dome was constructed starting in 1909 and opened in 1913, and at the time became the largest reinforced concrete dome in the world, spanning 35 metres. There is enough light provided by the 480 glass panes that no artificial light is needed in the day.
