Aussie kids
Why do they have to live so damn far away? After living here for 8 months followed by a six week trip to Southeast Asia, I'm came back to Australia for six days to say my goodbyes to my neice and nephew and other friends I made (and hello to my brother who is here and taking the same flight home).
When I arrived from Bangkok I had 12 hours to kill in Sydney, but, almost no money to spend. Fortunately walking around is still free, so I walked up the steps of the Opera House and around a few parks. It was a pretty rainy day so I tucked into a museum for a bit, using my thumb to cover the expiration date on my student card to get the concession. I still had a bit of a fever from Thailand, so I spent the rest of the afternoon sipping coffee and browsing bookstores.
When I got to Melbourne I realized I booked the wrong airport, so I needed to get a bus and a train to the town of my sister-in-laws, Sunbury. I knew my brother must've been waiting at the other airport, but I had no way of calling so I figured it'd work itself

The week went quick. I was thinking a lot about the fact I would be home in a matter of days after not being there for nearly 10 months. I also for the first time I can remember have no set plans. No job, no University...not even a house or a car. I'm sure many people would be envious of the freedom I have at this point in my life, but trust me, it doesn't make for a good nights sleep. I know things will work out.
It was great to get to know my neice and nephew better. They are both really amazing kids.
Lily (my neice, 6) was barely learning to read when I arrived last July--now she's already reading children's novels. She wants to be a professional dancer someday. Her favorite color is purple and her favorite food is rice pudding. She is really good at coloring Cinderella and Bratz books with her textures (markers).
Micah (nephew, 8) is brilliant, the things that come out of his mouth continue to amaze me. He can outwit me with total ease. He can recite line after line of the Simpsons, but usually starts laughing
to hard at how stupid Homer Simpson is. He can usually be found playing his X-Box, but he's also curious about the natural world and he draws intricate designs of security traps and medieval battles.
Anastasia is their little sister, almost 2. She's got big brown eyes and has made me appreciate how fast kids grow--when I got here she was a baby and now she can already walk and just about talk in full sentences. I'll miss picking her up and giving her big hugs and rescueing her from her older siblings.
I also made one more trip to the University of Melbourne campus. It seems like I only went there for a very short time, one semester, but while I was in classes and completing essays it seemed like eternity. I really miss being a study abroad student. I miss being a student period. It's really an awesome lifestyle, despite the occational stress and headaches of assignments and tests. You get attached to being able to manage your own time rather than some boss doing it for you, and you get attached to being around thousands of potential friends and pretty much always having a good time. You also have a feeling that you are always bettering yourself in University that dissappears when you're completed. I really miss being a student.
I wish I had something more to say since this is the end of one of the most significant adventures of my life. I guess the most important things that happened happened inside myself, and these will come out in time. It put me through a lot being away from home for so long. A lot of loneliness, confusion, frustration when things don't turn out how you expect. But mostly, through it all, I learned that the most important thing to have is a good attitude. You're not always going to be in a good mood, that's life. But if you think negative all the time, then nothing good with come your way. Be positive about life ,
think postive about life, and do your best to help others do the same.
Today's the first day of the rest of my life, time to see what the next chapter has is store for me.
