We had arranged for my mum to look after the girls so that Chloe and I could have some personal time together and so that we could go and see Priscilla queen of the desert the musical. Well that’s not entirely true. The original idea was to go for a drive along the great ocean road to see the twelve apostles. I saw them ten years ago and thought they were fantastic along with the entire ocean ravaged coastline in that area. When we were in Sydney we saw a poster advertising Priscilla and looked online to see where it was playing only to find that it was playing in Melbourne. So we booked tickets.
Chloe booked an apartment in the city, Lonsdale Street, for three nights, which turned out to be absolutely ideal.
The apartment is in a building that is owned by Uni City apartments. They rent out self contained units to student for a reasonable rate, what is left over is advertised to other people. The building has a car park attached to the back of it which charges $15 a day to park the car, which if you look around the city is very cheap. The only
slight issue we had, that is more to do with the weather than the place itself, is the fact that we were on the sixth floor so because of the weather being so warm it was unbearably hot.
We left my mums place in Bega at about 9.30 am and the drove south on the princes highway. After a bit of conversation we suddenly realised that we had left Aisha’s prescription, for Malerone (anti malaria drug), back at my mums. We had to turn around and get it. The reason being was that the junior version is difficult to get hold of and we had found some in Doncaster, near Melbourne. So we turned around and drove back got the prescription and then set off again.
We stopped on the way in Eden, for obvious reasons if you know Chloe, to get a couple of pictures.
It is 600 km’s from Bega to Melbourne and it took us 8 hours with a stop for coffee and petrol in Orbost and then a quick toilet stop in Sale.
We checked in and parked the car. I very quickly decided that Chloe could sleep on the window side of the bed. As
I said we stayed on the sixth floor and the window was floor to ceiling. I don’t like heights, I am sure I have said that before….
We went out for food on Russell street and then had a wander around China town. After all that driving an early night was in order.
On Friday we tried to have a lie in, but due to the window being open and the fan running it didn’t work. So after some breakfast we went exploring instead.
Melbourne is a fantastic city. It was the capital from 1901 to 1926. Hence the original parliament building is there. The city is very reminiscent of New York in as much as there are lots of older buildings surrounded by skyscrapers. A lot of the buildings are Victorian or Edwardian. There were obviously a lot of different religious groups around back then because there seems to be a very pretty church on every corner.
After looking around we went back to the apartment to get ready to go to see Priscilla. We then went to China town to have some food before the show. We walked in to a very nice Chinese just as it was

I have no idea what this is supposed to be opening so we ended up with 6 people waiting on us. A great bottle of wine and some wonderful food was consumed. We were doing this early because the website said that you need to get there early to pick up tickets due to the huge queues. Well when we got to the Theatre is was empty. So we got the tickets and went and had a couple of beers at John Squire’s brew house. It is a very good attempt at an English pub that has a corner sectioned off to brew the beer. We sat outside at a table so that Chloe could smoke. A couple of metalers came up and asked if we were going to see the dead things. Bloody typical just because we have blue and pink hair!!! Oh well we would have gone to see them if Priscilla was calling.
Well what can I say about the show apart from it being absolutely amazing. If you have ever seen the film it follows the story line very well. We are not sure why but there didn’t seem to be as many ABBA tracks in the musical as there is in the film. All I

After coming out of the show, not the closet, we were both still buzzing. We went back to the apartment to drop off the program and went on a hunt for a good place to dance/drink. We stopped a few times for beers before stumbling across the Lounge; sorry I can’t tell you where it is cos I don’t remember. Chloe asked the girl behind the bar for a TVR and then had to explain what it was. She was then presented with vodka and redbull and a separate shot of tequila. She then poured the tequila into the glass and the girls behind the bar thought she was a loon. At this point I got back from the toilet and asked for one. I was then presented with exactly the same, the girl couldn’t get her head around the fact that we wanted it all in the same glass, perhaps it’s just an English thing. We danced our bits off for a few hours then collapsed in a big

We woke far too early for my liking and I struggled through the rest of the day. Although I did have a bit of a nap whilst Chloe went in search of lunch.
We did a bit of Christmas shopping then went for dinner at a great Greek restaurant (Dion on Lonsdale). Although they were a bit short on staff. A group of 14 were sat behind us and slowly appeared just as we arrived and then a group of 17 arrived just as we got our starters. There was one waitress running around like a banshee. There was a sign up saying “new waitress required URGENTLY”.
We got a few takeouts and retired early. Far too much partying the night before, if such a thing exists, and a 600 km drive back the following morning.
Chloe did a search on the net to find how to get to Ramsay street. Well you can’t go to Melbourne and not visit Erinsborough can you. We got there and Chloe was star struck. We both grew up watching neighbours but haven’t done for years. Although we

As we drove off we were witness to a hit and run car accident and stopped to calm the poor woman down and give her my mums phone number as a witness. Chloe then texted my mum just to pre-warn her that the police might ring. Could have been interesting had she not known.
The drive back was dull but we did see some kangaroo’s at the side of the road, live ones and a few splatted ones, unfortunately. Every time Chloe got the camera out we didn’t see any. When she put it away we saw another one. Sods law eh?
