at 8.op.m on sunday 18th september we arrived , very tired, we got a taxi to the hotel , it said when i booked it on the internet it had a bar, there is no bar at the ibis hotel on bourke street, 1st disapointment, internet connection in all rooms, 2nd disapointment, and carmel would love the veiw, her being used to looking at skips , we overlooked a yard with wheelie bins,still the hotel was quiet the rooms were clean the breakfast was wonderful.It was also handy for the free trams that run around Melbourne. Our first job on the monday was to open a bank account, we had arranged to transfer some money from england ,but first we had to have an account in australia, we could only open this when we arrived,we told our bank this they said all would be ok, we duly filled out the forms all that was needed was the new account name and number ,now they are saying I have to be at the bank in england in person , to transfer the money.ARE THEY MAD , I am Hopping.
Still on the good side we were granted a visa that would last for all of our stay, without the need to leave the country every 3 months.
Yesterday morning Melbourne was heaving,it was the state funeral of Peter Brock the racing driver.
Last night we found a lovely narrow street with tables ,with umberellas , music, and wonderful food, we ate and drank alfresco, after all the hassel we had, had, this was the life,warm 31 degrees, a light breeze ,and tables full of happy laughing people.
Today we leave melbourne and head for Sue,'s, we went to school together, more years ago than i care to remember, We took a train out of Melbourne, and headed south to Cranbourne, Sue has offered to drive us about til we find our home for the next year, i am really excited about this, also we still have to find someone who fiddles with computers, unless any of you out there have any ideas, i know it cant be much as i have a good wireless signal I have a card that has a number on, I have put the IP address to automatic, what was the other thing i have to do, ? love to you all jo and dave
