The Murray River
A trip to the beach So after making my way back to melbourne. it was time to search for some work. After just two phone calls on monday I was told that there was work going in Echuca, if I could get there that day to start work the next day. So packed my stuff and headed to the bus station for a three hour coach journey to my destination.
At half six the following morning i met up with Hester and Ronald who were also Tomato planting. I had visions of lots of digging. but that was not the case. We simply sat on a machine that was attacted to the back of a tractor, put the tomato plants into spinning cups so the machine could plant them. Only difficultly was keeping up with the machine. After working just one day we were told that there was no more work till monday. So once back at the hostel equiried again with the owner "Debbie" about more work. unfortunatly she could get us any for wednesday. So turned into a free day.
Yuko who I had met on my first day Echuca also had the day off. So we went down the port to see the

Someone's got a bit confused paddle steamers. Yuko show me round the town and then we headed over the bridge to Moama. We walked around the woods toward the river murray where there was a small beach next to the river. Great for a hot day. When we returned back to the hostel debbie was there with some good news. Work tomorrow, thinning friut.
After a nice early morning again. Me, Hester, Ronald and Daneille head to Skinder and Alex Kaso orhards. Where we start work thining plums. Even easier than tomato planting, just have to pick off the damaged friut and thin out the crowded areas. We also told that we can work the hours we want. very nice although the job is still very boring.
On saturday we have the choice of working if we want but as it is Hester's birthday we decide not to. As a surprise me and Yuko baked her cake which we all enjoyed that afternoon. In the even we all went to the local nightclub to celebrate, the only night club. The OPT turned out to be a bit limited on both music and women. the club was packed with sweaty farmers.
The next day as it

Chilling with the apple trees was very warm, a group of decided to go to the 'beach' to enjoy a swim in the river, lovely and cool.
spent most of my evenings watching dvd's and reading, also trying learn some japanese from Yuko.
It's back to work on monday, where we finish off the plums and move on to apples. We start off with galas. After a week of hard work it's the weekend again. To earn a little extra money seven of us have been offered work at the local fairground. $160 cash in hand great.
So on saturday we all arrive at the fairground where we are met by Wendy. Where she promtly tells me, that i was not supppose to be there until 12 o'clock, to which i say that i was told to be here at ten and wanted to work as it was a 20 minute walk back to the hostel, to which i was told that she would phone me when she needed me. So two hours later i get a phone call to return, oh and could i pick up ten bags of ice on the way, no problem. so i turn up with the ice, make sure i get my money back, then i start to relive the others for their lunch breaks. first up is hester in with the clowns. pretty much a kids game where they put a ball in the clowns mouth and see what number it lands on, then get a prize. next it was time to supervise the bouncey castle and babysit Wendy's one year little girl at the same time, bit of a piss take. after this came snow cones and then finally looking after the carosel, after which came my lunch. by the time i was back it was time for the tea breaks to start. after tea breaks i was told i could go. it was only five and i was suppose to working till ten. after being pissed around in the morning, i was not amused, especially when i only recieved $40 dollars for my work and told i was not needed the next day either.
On sunday however after having a lovely lie-in, i strolled into the kitchen to find that the other six who were suppose to be working had been fired that morning, turns out they had got early that morning only to receive a call saying not to arrive until ten, then when they arrive a ten, they were told to have a break straight away. To which they repiled, thet they wanted to work, so they were told to go home.
As on sunday it was raining, we spent the day baking cakes and watching dvd's, one of which was the story of Ned Kelly. Yuko also cooked us all some tipical japanese food which was lovely, followed by japanese green tea.
In the next we moved from galas to pink lady's. Ronald and Hester were making plans to go camping nearer to where we are work and invited me aswell. After mentioning our plan's to Skinder, he took us to one and offered us free accomadtion in the picker's huts on the ochard. All we have to do is keep it quiet from the hostel.
