Somewhere between Devonport and Cradle Mountain.
Located 90 minutes from Devonport, Cradle Mountain is located at the Northern end of the Cradle Mountain- Lake St Clair National Park.

Travelling there from Devonport takes you on a beautiful drive through the back roads of country Tasmania through Sheffield, the town famous for the murals.
Driving along the country roads gives you a chance to relax in the quiet unspoilt country life of Tasmania and see the mountains raising up on the side of the road.

At Cradle Mountain you have a choice of paying to take your car in the national park or for a smaller fee accessing the shuttle bus service.
We chose the shuttle bus service as many of the roads are one way and narrow.

You park and pay at the information centre then the shuttle buses run regularly through the park. Jump on the bus and jump off where you want to hike.

At every checkpoint, you are asked to sign in as a hiker so if for some reason you don't return (and sign out) the park rangers are more informed of your last whereabouts.

It was a overcast and chilly day when we went and the mist

was moving in close to the mountains but the rain could not damper the beauty of Cradle Mountain.
The lust colours of the flora against the beautiful blue sky looked amazing, everywhere you looked were colours.

As the mist set in, it gave off a mystical feel. So magical.

We hiked to the top of Marions Lookout which wasn't the best track for us as we had a 2 year old and a pram but the view was worth it all.
Sitting on the top of the rock overlooking the lake, we had a front seat view of the misty peak.

It really felt like we were on top of the world up there.

For more information on Cradle Mountain, the Parks and Wildlife Service website is very informative.
