It is only three days now before we set off which invokes a pensive, reflective mood to realise how good we have it in Australia and particularly here in Port Lincoln. It is a comfortable life and when we look at what is happening around us we really should be content in the knowledge that we are the lucky country. Todays big news is:

Shock/horror - Who will build our next submarines?

"BILL Shorten has accussed “Torpedo” Tony Abbott of “contracting out” Australia’s national security, if his government has the country’s new submarine fleet built in Japan. During a visit to the Adelaide headquarters of naval shipbuilding company ASC, the Opposition Leader pledged Labor will build submarines in Australia “unequivocally”. and,

Shock/Horror, did Julia do the wrong thing?

One of the most uncomfortable questions in Australian politics is about to be aired: could Julia Gillard, whose career epitomised the best and worst of public life, have benefited from union corruption?

On Wednesday Ms Gillard will step into the witness box at the Royal Commission into Trade Union Governance and Corruption to answer questions referring to the early 1990s, when she dated the allegedly corrupt head of the Australian Workers Union’s West Australian and Victorian divisions, Bruce Wilson.

Meanwhile in Adelaide, Hugh problems!

A POLICE patrol cleared the way as a truck carrying a giant piece of mining equipment suffered brake problems on the South Eastern Freeway today, escorting it through the Portrush Rd intersection at 70km/h.

While in Port Lincoln:

A SECTION of the Port Lincoln jetty swimming enclosure broke in wild winds on Monday.

Port Lincoln City Council operations manager Craig Matena said the join where the pontoon failed had been earmarked by the company that designed the enclosure for a flex-joint to allow the pontoons to move more easily in bad weather.

We don't have much to worry about but we do a good job of it.
