On the move again
We were picked up by the limo at 09:45 and taken to Adelaide Airport. (We could get used to travelling in big black limousines with a driver in uniform!)
Check in went no problem, but Di is not happy as we are flying economy and we can't get in the lounge. There were only two lounges at the airport both affiliated to specific airlines. So we had to pay for our refreshments at the airport - bugger!
Thoughts of Adelaide – It seems older and more established than Perth. It appears generally quieter as regards people on the street, although Rundle Street can be busy in the evening.
The airport at Adelaide seems new, and it is spacious, far from the packed Heathrow that we left an age ago.
Another observation on Australia and it's climate, I always associated It with just sunshine everyday, but the weather is a bit more complex. They have heavy rains in some parts (As in Queensland which was well publicised in the UK media). And also these cyclones appear to be a fairly regular occurrence, with another one called "Carlos" threatening the Darwin area in the north. They
had to suspend all the alcohol licenses up there as people were having parties, getting drunk, and some people were jumping into the swollen rivers!!
Also got an e-mail from John of Wine for dudes, there are pictures of us on their site

Anyway back to the travelling, got to Sydney no problem. Put our watches on a further half hour, we are now 11 hours head of the UK, I think that it is the last time change. Driver was there to meet us and take us to our hotel. The hotel is really great, it is situated just minutes from circular quay, so we can utilise the ferries to do some of our sightseeing. Also we have a great view overlooking the Opera House (We are on the 26th floor).
We unpacked (again!) and decided to go and have a look at the bridge and opera house. We were a little disappointed at the opera house, I guess we had heard so much that it was difficult to live up to the billing. Pretty much the same with the bridge, although the actual span of the bridge is impressive. I had the same feeling
when I saw the Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco a number of years ago. I think that we undervalue the Forth Bridges that we have in Scotland as I feel that these equal any bridge in the world as regards engineering achievement. I guess that the main difference with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge is the surrounding and setting.
We had dinner at the Opera cafe below the Opera House as the sun went down.It had been cloudy when we landed, with the threat of rain, but it had turned into a beautiful day. Our driver from the airport said that sunshine is forecast for the next few days- let's hope that he is right.
On the way back to the hotel we heard a lot of noise in the trees and saw that the trees were full of large bats!
We returned to the hotel for an early night to prepare for a days sightseeing tomorrow. We intend to take the Sydney Explorer Bus to get round the main sites and later get a ferry to Manly Beach
