1. Forktree Brewing
Stopped at the Forktree Brewery, only for a photo of the truck though Woke up to a lot of activity in Victor Harbour, turns out there was some kind of run going on this morning, but it was pretty much done and dusted by the time we had packed up and left our motel. No surprise they wanted to start and finish early given it was already 33 degrees before 10am this morning! Did we say we wanted more sunshine and warmth??….. I think we spoke too soon!
Today we were on the road again….. heading up to Glenelg which is our last stop in Southern Australia before we fly up to Cairns. This was a relatively short drive for us, only just over an hour door to door. Only one real stop off today, which was the Myponga reservoir and dam which meant we got to our next accommodation a little early. To pass some time, we went for a drive back down the coast road to find somewhere to park up and eat lunch.
We noticed the beaches here are called Hove and Brighton! But they’re nothing like they are at home, not a pebble in sight. It was very busy though, looks like everyone in the area had travelled
2. Myponga Reservoir
We took a small detour and ended up crossing teh Myponga Reservoir Dam down for a nice sunny Sunday on the beach. There were also several area’s setup with stalls and what looked like a lifeguard event taking place on the beach. Which all meant it was almost impossible to find anywhere to park!
We finally found a parking place, unfortunately in full sun (it was nearing 35 degrees at this point!) just by the beach. After sitting in the enclosed car with the air con on full and eating our lunch, we decided the sea looked far too inviting and wandered down to the beach for a paddle.
The sea was an impressive turquoise blue, crystal clear, just a few seashells being moved around by the small waves and some small fish whizzing around the shallow water. It was very refreshing and cool, just what we needed on such a hot day.
When it got to 2pm, we headed back up to the now very hot car and drove to the Glenelg Oasis Studio’s – our accommodation for the next couple of nights. It’s a compact unit but has everything we need and is really close to the shops, bars, restaurants, tram stops and beach in Glenelg.

3. Adlinga Beach
Just before we dropped down towads Adelaide we got this spectacular view of Adlinga Beach with adelaidein the background unpacking the car, we decided to explore the area on foot, our aim was to try to get booked onto a wine tour tomorrow. But we soon realised our efforts were futile as it’s a Sunday and no one is working today to arrange the pick up for a tour tomorrow! Not to worry, we have more time to arrange a wine tour when we’re driving down the east coast.
Instead, we found a lovely bar, in the Stamford Grand Hotel right on the seafront and sat outside, enjoying the views of the sea with the cooling breeze and a couple of ice cold beers. It had a very holiday like feel which was a nice change from the, sometimes hectic, schedule of travelling around (not that we’re complaining – that’s also been very enjoyable!)
Not wanting to become like the drunken rabble on the table next to us, we decided two beers was enough and went searching for somewhere to grab some dinner. A lot of the places either didn’t have anything that caught our eye or weren’t serving food for another hour. After a little more exploring along the sea front, we ended up back at
4. Glenelg Ferris Wheel
The Glenelg Wheel from the Stamford Bar ‘Doughballs’, a little pizza place just near where we had our beers. We sat on the upstairs balcony away from the busy hustle and bustle of the street, but still able to see the sea and people watch. Then we headed back to the room for a bit of relaxation and to try to use up some of our remaining stash of beers and wine as we can’t take it with us when we leave for Cairns.
