So we left the beautiful high country of Springbrook and made our way up the 8 lanes of madness that is the Brute Highway, where all sorts of crazy drivers just tear around bumping into things, luckily not us. Although a few of them copped the finger, the car horn and general abuse from what appeared to be our R.V, Well its our house on wheels and we just gptta look after it, even if a few road loonies, cop a bit of "what was that for!!!"
Sadly Basho's beautiful sister Pamela has had another stint in the big house of Salengor Hospital in Nambour, we needed to be close and were generously offered a camp at a nearby cattle farm, belonging to their good friends John and Jane at Image Flat, about 10 klicks west of Nambour. Here we set ourselves up in the Mayfair shed with lots of mod cons and luxuries one seldom gets on the road, hot showers, proper kitchen stuff and mega room to spread out. We visited pam daily in her private room and had many wonderful Pammy moments that are just all too precious, not too mention the unforgettable bearded man who just
seemed in life to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
This was one of the most bizarre moments in life that had us in stitches laughing for days, let me set the scene, it goes something like this. Bilbo is alone in the hospitals kitchen/ T.V room when he decides to let a sneaky but oh so terribly smelly one rip, when a nurse enters the room soon after, and opens the fridge, where upon she cops a head full of unbearable stink. She turns to a red faced Bilbo and says, "There must be something rotten in the fridge, thats odd I just cleaned it out this morning, maybe there is something rotten in the bin," Brer Bilbo lay low and gives a sympathetic nod. Nurse quickly leaves stinkville to bearded Bilbo, when soon after enters the poor unfortunate bearded man who is in the wrong place at the wrong time, this man is to be known as the "four cars and three trucks man".
He painfully sits himself down, maybe his nose twitched a little at the horrible lingering stench that is surely but slowly melting into the ether, Bilbo offers the social
obligatory question of "how ya goin' mate, he painfully turns to Bilbo to tell him of his lifes' tale of unbelievable bad luck. You see he has just had his fourth back operation, most of his back has been fused and now he can just walk, after get this, he tells Bilbo, he is recovering from being run down by four cars and three trucks in separate incidents, "what is it with this guy, his mother obviously didn't tell him about looking left then right before you cross the road".
The next part of the sordid scenario goes like this, Pam and Basho now enter the room, where I don't know why I did this, but I found myself in the confession box, and told the sorry saga about the fluff and the nurse and the four cars and three trucks man to Pam and Basho who are in incredulous disbelief about the fluff, the nurse and the four cars and three trucks man, and after all this, here comes the sting.
Bilbo has left the room to get something for Pam from her room, when unbeknowns to Pam and Basho, the same nurse enters the room opens
the fridge and says, that horrible smell is still there, Pam and Basho break out in uncontrollable laughter, nurse turns to them in astonishment, curious as why they would think it funny. In an attempt to explain themselves they tell nurse, "There was a man in here who had been hit by several motor vehicles, I think he may have passed wind" Nurse blinks, and recalls only one bearded man in the room, you guessed it little old bearded Bilbo, who now re-enters the room, with scowling nurse giving him "the look, only a cross nurse could give, so I suppose the moral of the story is "what goes around comes around.
We spent a few weeks at John and Janes farm property while Pam recovered and thank them very much for their hospitality also extended to Uncle Jack who shared a few days with us, always good to catch up with uncle Jack and I very much hope to catch up with you all soon on our next travel blog. I have included a few snaps of John and Janes creek frontage property, cheers until next time Bilbo and Basho
