EN FRANCAIS PLUS BAS MORE PHOTOS HERE Some friendships take months or years to build. Others are obvious from the first minute you meet someone. So enters Sally in my life one May day (no pun intended) just a week before my departure from Paris. It was picnic season, Canal St Martin and Montmartre, and I had not laughed that much and that hard in a long time. And if Australia had not been on my itinerary, I probably would have added it just to visit Sally in her lovely countryside bed & breakfast, just off the Gold Coast.
When we arrived at her place late in the evening, Sally had spent the whole week-end playing soccer during the day and dancing and drinking at night (I had originally planned to join the festivities, and somewhat unknowingly ruined a few plans when I canceled and stayed in Hervey Bay...), so she was understandably tired. No matter, she was a fireball of energy and we talked and giggled and teased until we just couldn´t hold our eyes open (Jean had given up a long time before then!). So the night was short but sweet, as the boys left for Tasmania early
in the morning. Sally and her daughter Bella then came to wake me up again jumping on the bed, and the three of us took off for Noosa beach, just to lay in the sand, watch Bella play in the waves, and chat our ears off catching up on each other´s life. Which is basically all we did for the whole week I was there...
I had planned to spend three days with Sally, and learn kite surfing with her, then move on to another countryside couchsurfer about an hour from there to run quadbike, hike and horseride. I ended up forgetting about the kite surf (too expensive, too demanding), instead we went for a quiet afternoon of kayaking in Noosa, and spent the rest of the week being homey, enjoying scrumptious breakfasts, resting to my soul´s content (after all, she does run a bed AND breakfast!), having nice family dinners with good wine, staying in our PJs with a hot cocoa in hand watching Bridget Jones and the Notebook... Yes, that was a real home break, no traveling, no packing and unpacking, no wondering what to do tomorrow, no waiting for buses in the rain, no meeting yet
another set of new friends. Just being home with an old, true friend and wearing comfy slippers.
And on Friday, off I was again... Chris and Jean were organizing a crepe party at their CS host Emma´s in Brisbane, and we had planned to meet there, so the three of us would travel together on Saturday to Noumea, as we were on the same flight. Sally and I arrived fashionably late at Emma´s, so the party was already thumping, but Sally pumped up the volume and the temperature, aptly assisted by Emma and me. After a few completely decadent crepes, a few equally decadent drinks, and a few totally silly salsas and rock´n roll, a bunch of us hit the Brissy night scene, frisky dresses, pink shirts and hats and all. Needless to say it ended at day break, and we had just a few hours of sleep before heading to the airport and going back to... France on Air Calin!
