Track
The sand track to the beach - we were skidding all over the place! Today we left home at about 08:40, drove to McDonalds and grabbed some brekkie. We ate it as we drove towards the sunshine coast along the M1. We stopped at the bait shop and bought some worms, mackerel and some new hooks before we left the mainland and headed over the bridge to the island.
When we got to the island we stopped in the car park near the beach and let some air out of the tyres. Dad drove down the sand track to get to the beach and we were skidding all over the place. It was really fun. When we got down onto the beach, Dad and I swapped places and I drove all of the way to the other end of the beach where we stopped and parked up. Dad and I started fishing while Sophie relaxed reading her magazines.
We spent about an hour fishing off the beach, but hardly had any bites and unsuprisingly we didn't catch anything! The sea started to get quite rough and the waves were getting quite big. We packed up all of the fishing gear and packed up the car. Dad drove all the way back down the
beach as the tide had come in and so we had to drive up in the softer sand.
We stopped at the surf club for lunch, and while we were waiting for our food, we played hangman and noughts and crosses on the paper tablecloth with some crayons that are there for the kids! Lunch was lovely and Sophie was very happy as she "really needed some food" as she told us about ten time afterwards!
We then drove across part of the island to the other side. We walked past a freshwater lake and had to cross an ankle-deep lake/inlet to get to a smallish sand island. It was a lot calmer than the beach side of the island and I was much happier fishing there. We stood knee deep in the water fishing and we got lots and lots of bites. Sophie was sunbathing and reading her book while we were fishing. While Dad and I were fishing, a toadfish swam around our legs and we were constantly on the lookout for jellyfish!
I got a big bite on my little rod and managed to hook it and brought it in to a couple of
The Road
The main beach highway. metres infront of me, but it just got away. It was a nice looking fish though! Then when I was looking after the big rod, I got a big bite and I got Dad to bring it in for me while I filled the bucket with sea water. When we got the fish in, we put it in the bucket and I took some photos of it. Luckily the fish managed to unhook itself while it was in the bucket so neither Dad or I had to touch it! Eww! We released the fish after taking a picture of it on the sand.
We packed up our stuff and turned around to head back to the car across the 'ankle-deep lake/inlet'. It turns out that although that description was suitable when we had arrived (two hours earlier) when we tried to leave, a more suitable description would be 'waist-deep, freezing cold lake. We had to wade across the lake fully clothed with all of the fishing stuff, cameras, phones and blanket! Stood on the edge of the lake I had visions of us having to swim across fully clothed as it looked a lot deeper! It was FREEZING, but
luckily, we had all packed a set of warm clothes in the car, so we were all able to get into dry clothes before we got into the car.
We stopped at a garage on the way home to re-inflate the tyres before getting back onto the highway. We washed the car at the Woolworths car wash and got home at about 18:15. We had showers and then had lentil and spinach soup, that Sophie and I made yesterday, for dinner. We watched an episode of 'Worst week of my life' and now Dad and Sophie have gone to bed and I am watching 'The Big Bang Theory'.
