Cairns - June 2012

Went to Cairns for the purpose of a chartered fishing trip that was cancelled due to weather. Spent some time on the beach, in the pool and at the butterfly sanctuary at Kuranda instead.

Kuranda butterfly sanctuary
The female attracts the male and he hangs upside down during mating which can last 18 hrs. She injects a sedative to prevent him from disconnecting or flying away. She may only live for 3 days and in that time has to find a partner, mate and lay eggs.
