Today we stayed around Mt Isa in recovery mode after the long trip yesterday. The weather was clear but windy. It warmed up during the afternoon. This is very much a mining town - the mines produce lead, copper, tin, silver and gold. We walked up to Observation Hill, along Rodeo Drive, had lunch in a coffee shop, had the windscreen fixed, and then visited the Underground Hospital. This hospital had been built inWW2 as security in case the town was bombed - but the Japanese only bombed Darwin. We then went out to Lake Moondarra which is the water supply dam for the town. We are now prepared for the long trip to Hughenden tomorrow.
As an aside we were walking down the main street and some Aboriginal children looked at me and told me interesting!!!
As we were walking to the Underground Hospital Graham saw a Windscreen Repairer and off he went to see if he could get the windscreen repaired leaving me to walk onto the Underground Hospital. I became a little anxious as time went by and he didn’t reappear. I met some lovely Australian people so had a good yarn with them. Graham suddenly appeared just as the doors of the hospital were about to be closed for the day. We were lucky to be given a tour. It was an amazing tour and well worth the visit. Mt Isa was an interesting town and the gardens around the town were very pretty

The nurses from the main hospital would come into the Underground Hospital to cool off on very hot summer days.
