24/3 Our bus from Airlie Beach was at 9:15 so we got up early and then walked down to the bus stop which was horrible again. Our bus was about 5 hours long and then we had to get a ferry over to the island and then a public bus to the hostel so by the time we got there and checked in it was 4 o'clock. We chilled in our room for a bit and then went to the bar to have dinner because we had a $10 dinner voucher for free. Kennedy and I had lasagne because we've been craving it for ages but the lasagne was disgusting- we were so gutted but it only cost us $2 so we couldn't complain. After dinner we wanted to go and see the rock wallabies but the bus wasn't for another hour so we decided to walk. We walked for about half an hour and by that point it was dark and we had no idea where we were going to we turned around and came back. On the way back we saw a possum, loads of bats, these freaky birds and heard so many animals noises in the pitch black
because there was no street lights we started to freak ourselves out. Although we didn't actually get to the wallabies it was such a funny walk so it wasn't a complete waste of time. We sat in the bar for a bit so we could use the wifi. Kennedy got some bad news about her grandad which was horrible because she got upset so we stayed for a bit so she could speak to people at home but then had an early night.
25/3 We got up early this morning and got free breakfast from the hostel which was amazing. I had fruit, yoghurt and museli which I haven't had in so long and it was so tasty I was so happy. We hired stinger suits, you can't go in the sea here without them because of the jelly fish, and went snorkelling in the bay by our hostel. We went out there for about an hour but all we saw was a load of seaweed and a few boring fish. Once we'd showered we sat in the room for a bit to cool down because we're starting to get a bit fed up of constantly being in the
sun and sweating all the time. When our belly's started rubbling we decided to walk to the shop to get some food. There was a cafe next door so we got a sandwich in there for lunch and then went to the shop to buy food for dinner and tomorrow. The walk was about 15 minutes each way and it basically killed us because it was so hot! We had to lie in our room again to cool down and we ended up falling asleep because the sun has completely drained us. Two months of sun and heat is starting to catch up on us now I think so we just need to relax and avoid the sun as much as possible this week before we start working outside all day everyday on a farm. We wanted to go and see the wallabies again but decided we would get the bus this time so we actually got there to see them before the sunset. There was so many and we got to feed them because somebody there had some food that they gave us for them. They were so cute and the rocks that they live on were next to
the beach so we got to see the sunset over the water. We had to wait 40 minutes for the bus back but there was no way we were walking in the dark again. We made dinner when we got back and then just sat in the bar for the evening until we went to bed.
26/3 I've eaten so much unhealthy food and done no exercise in ages so I got up this morning and did a workout. Somebody stole my trainers last week so I had to do it on the beach bare foot which made it a lot harder and I was in the direct line of sun so I only last half an hour before I thought I was going to explode I was so hot! Me and Kennedy have decided that when we get to Cairns and find a job we need to start eating less/healthier and do exercise. We had to check out at 10 and then wait until 1 for the bus to take us onto the ferry which was pretty boring. By the time we got to cairns it was 8 o'clock and then we had to walk to our hostel
which luckily wasn't too far away. We are staying at Gilligans which everyone raves about and I'd say 90% of backpackers who go to cairns will stay here. When we arrived I couldn't believe how big it is- it's like a hotel. There's four floors and each floor has its own kitchen and tv area; each room has its own bathroom with a really nice shower and my room even had a balcony. Gilligans is known for being a party hostel so I was expecting there to be a lot of noise and people drinking in my room. To my surprise everyone was just going to have a quiet night because they'd either been out the night before or been on my bus so we're too tired. Me and Kennedy didn't want to go out so we were glad about this; we're in different rooms but she came to mine to chill anyway.
